Patrick White (1) 6:03:28 PM
Good evening to John and fellow listeners
Richard from Rocky Hill 6:13:13 PM
Never heard this Loudon Wainright ode to "bad girl" figure skater Tonya Harding ... ha!
Patrick White (1) 6:19:16 PM
When I saw him perform it live.He couldn’t keep a straight face.
Rick Horowitz 6:28:58 PM
"Everything after this will be Subsequent Songs..." Words of wisdom, and yet another reason I tune in! :)
John Weingart (host) 6:31:51 PM
hmpf. Will Here are you and Bill and Bonnie
Rick Horowitz 6:32:22 PM
Just noticed that very same thing! Thanks!
Michael from Frenchtown 6:38:35 PM
Never heard Fairport’ version of this. Great vocals but
Michael from Frenchtown 6:38:55 PM
By Richard Thompson.
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:04:49 PM
My! "Bristlecone Pine" by Eliza Gilkyson is haunting. And powerful in setting the perspective (when Jesus was gathering disciples, some bristlecone pines were already a thousand years old!). Eliza Gilkyson is a singer-songwriter in the Laurie Lewis mode, and that's meant as a high compliment. I'll check out her new album.
Patrick White (1) 7:06:42 PM
I wish there was footage of Charlie Poole and the Ramblers visiting New York City..
Patrick White (1) 7:14:23 PM
Holy Modal Rounders @Prallsville Mill with Adam Brodsky might have been worst concert I ever attended. However all other Prallsville Mill.shows I attended.were excellent.
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:15:01 PM
This classic Holy Modal Rounders version of "Bound to Lose" documents that Stampfel & Weber were capable of a keenly powerfully duet harmony blend. Wow!
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:17:28 PM
@ Patrick White (1) As a major Modals fan, I'm sorry to read of your disappointing experience. When was this? I caught them at Prallsville Mill a-way on back in 2000. I don't recall that they had an opening act, but I do remember what a fab show it was.
Patrick White (1) 7:19:40 PM
Adam Brodsky was the folk singer who used the f word throughout his music. The Modals were a little under the influence.I left at halftime while one of the modals was relieving himself in the nearby creek.
Patrick White (1) 7:21:43 PM
Was wondering why the program was titled If I lose.I feel like Homer Simpson.Doh Doh.
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:24:43 PM
@ Patrick White (1) Damn, that's all a shame. And not the Modals show that I saw and greatly enjoyed.
Patrick White (1) 7:27:05 PM
It’s okay Richard.every subsequent show was wonderful Reilly and Maloney Howard Fishman Geoff Muldaur Beppe Jim Kweskin Guy Davis some I forget right now.
Patrick White (1) 7:30:14 PM
Looking forward next week to Johns annual Super Bowl show.Hoping to hear Andy Griffiths They call it football.
John Weingart (host) 7:34:27 PM
Good idea. re Andy Griffith.
Patrick White (1) 7:35:19 PM
I watch the game volume down WPRB on.
Patrick White (1) 7:36:39 PM
If I order that LP does Music you can’t hear get a cut out of it.
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:37:22 PM
@ Patrick White (1) Yep, Geoff Muldaur, Jim Kweskin, Happy Traum, Beppe Gambetta ... at Prallsville Mill, all xlnt. Looking forward to Beppe, and Tim O'Brien with Jan Fabricius at the Mill.
Patrick White (1) 7:40:01 PM
Richard that might be my all time favorite concert venue.
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:42:36 PM
HA! "Rickki Don't Lose That Number" by Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen. Will the world ever recover for Steely Dan, bluegrass style? Sure! The Dead South just released a killer bluegrass version of the Doors' "People Are Strange."
Chris Sowa 7:42:55 PM
Terrific Rikki cover
Rick Horowitz 7:44:14 PM
Trying to imagine any other show pairing "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" with "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor..."
Rick Horowitz 7:44:44 PM
Excellent!
Patrick White (1) 7:45:45 PM
I think it’s high time for a Skiffle revival..
Patrick White (1) 7:49:46 PM
Thanks John-until next Sunday. These two hour shows pass by too quick..
Ambrose Hughes 7:52:29 PM
Hi John! Many thanks for this great tune!
Ambrose Hughes 7:55:11 PM
*tunes*
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:55:58 PM
@ Patrick White (1) Yessir! John Lennon's youthful band the Quarrymen (which of course eventually morphed into the Beatles) started out as a skiffle group. It even had (immediately pre-Paul McCartney's joining up) a real 5-string, full resonator banjo in it played by Rod Davis, who went on to be a stalwart of the British folk-bluegrass scene (and still is).
Chris Sowa 7:57:48 PM
Great show as usual John. We'll be listening next week.
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:58:09 PM
John once very kindly had me on the show talking about a Bluegrass Unlimited magazine article I'd written on Rod, with recordings by Rod (on his own and as a member of the Quarrymen Reunions Band) and ... yes, skiffle with Lonnie Donegan!
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:58:28 PM
Thanks, as always, John!
Nancy Sheehan 7:59:05 PM
Thks, great show!
John Weingart (host) 7:59:13 PM
Thank you. Great comments. Fun to read.
