Yeah Dan, it's a winner. I was playing the long drum workout in my car while parked at a light and ended up having a brief conversation about Africa with the guy parked next to me. Got in a plug for the station too, before the light changed....

Yes! Arzner was very successful commercially but the rumors are Louis B Mayer was a homophobe and kinda crushed her career. As she dressed very butch in her day her characters often remake their fate but their wardrobes. Lots of great comraderie between her women characters as well. Fascinating, distinctive films.

All four of the director could have whole programs dedicated to them. Mervyn LeRoy, as the sole producer, the real creative mind behind WIZARD OF OZ, has been a real revelation. He made 34 films in the 1930s alone, and taken together, it makes for a rich and revealing document of the era....

Yeah, I guess the Dolphy estate probably owes Zappa for the exposure...

I'm a big Dolphy fan. Also, I have a few cassettes of Dan hosting Beat Planet from about 30 years ago. I still play them occasionally.

His 30s stuff for Warners is so distinctive, later he became a making of highly-produced A-Films, but always with a surprising intelligence, a interest in the lives of women and first-rate performances. He claims he never made a film that lost money. Not sue that's true, but he doesn't have any big budget bombs in his filmpgraphy...

Wish I saved my Dan Buskirk cassettes.I used to listen First hour in my car then record on my boombox.Go back to work.Sneak out flip the tape.

Dan my last place to buy blank cassette tapes was the Vietnamese couple that run the curio store in 9th street market.At that point the only people using cassettes were myself and AL Queda.

Yeah, she was always very pleasant.

I loved sking for oddball items that they'd fish out of their store. "Do you have an oyster knife?" "A wheel eraser with the brush on the end?" "Road salt?" They always seemed to find it somewhere in that little store...

Yeah a chaotic assortment but they would have what you were looking for.They never gouged people either.

Just finished the Chris Frantz book. It really was a bit too much of a book about buildings and food no kidding. And complaining about David. And mentioning that he went to RISD. And lots of describing food & hotels on tour. Some rock star gossip rumors too. I wanted more geeky musical talk of rhythms, time signatures, gadgets, music overall

Saw a great double bill @Scottish Rite Zombies opening act Arthur Lee and his reconstituted Love Band.

Bet that was great, both bands still pretty captivating in their later years....

Yeah Arthur had a bunch of young guys but he drilled them well.

I saw Arthur about two years before he died. The Troc. He was great.

The Trocs last stand was a one dollar showing of Pee Wees Big Adventure.was happy to see movie but sad the Troc was closing.Sitting empty waiting for gentrification
