Lol, has it been a year already?? Radio shows flatten time, it all feels like last week to me

Arhoolie is all over the place blues, folk, Tex-Mex , experimental etc etc

Their founder Chris Strachwitz uses the term "mouse music" for standard boring fare etc (as in anything non -wprb pretty much ha)

We only play rat music here

But he definitely featured the real gritty low down country blues artists like Mance Lipscomb etc

German born blues and folk etc enthusiast really sheds light on tons of obscure artists over the decades

I am enjoying not only this Hassan Ideddir track, but the glorious album collage.

Will have to look into that documentary. And glorious it certainly is

Ah, that must've been a good one. This was 1am on a Saturday night in early September, just after KPC. He just kinda chuckled at me and shuffled out and I spent the next couple hours desperately trying not to press wrong buttons. Had no turntable experience to speak of

@ deirdre dionysiac (1) Thanks muchly for playing a track from the Holy Model Rounders album Last Round. It is indeed lesser known (compared to Stampfel & Weber's early happy-high fiddle/banjo and guitar old-timey revival duo albums). But it's an irrepressible ragtime/Dixieland/klezmer mashup by these marvelous maniacs. The Rounders forever!

@ Brian D Yes, HMR guitarist/singer Weber WAS an odd bird and Peter Stampfel (for those of you aren't Rounderheads, the singer/banjo picker/fiddler other half of the HMRs, who I've met) got very frustrated at times with him ... BUT ... Stampfel never lost his appreciation for -- indeed, his sheer wonder at -- their musical chemistry.

Ya it seemed Steve had his demons but the music they created was nice

@ Brian D Stampfel told me that back in the early 1960s folk, bluegrass & old-timey music revival in NYC, someone told him about Weber and suggested they get together and play some music: "So, I went over to his apartment, and here's this guy who looks like Lil' Abner. But from the first song ... No, from the very first NOTE! ... we totally clicked!"
