8-piece epic chip-tune metal from Philadelphia who performed rock covers of classic NES/SEGA 8-bit soundtracks using a combination of synthesizers and traditional instruments from guitars to accordions and had audience members play the games that corresponded to each soundtrack song live on a projection behind the musicians on stage. Currently, many members of this band are in the band Cheap Dinosaurs.

Hello Hello! 🤖 🎉
Lizbot (host) 5:02:38 PM
I just couldn’t resist another week of 20th anniversary celebration cuz there were so many songs I didn’t get to the last two weeks! 😂
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:05:21 PM
Ahoy Lizbot !
Lizbot (host) 5:05:58 PM
Hey Addie! I like the new specs! 👓
Lizbot (host) 5:06:09 PM
Hi Slithers!
Bud Burroughs 5:07:05 PM
Hello Lizbot. I've been enjoying the Anniversary shows, and I'm sure this one won't be any different!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:36 PM
@Addie - It’s super gorgeous in Philly right now, and I’ll take what I can get cuz this weekend is supposed to 🌧. How’s Vermont these days?
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:07:41 PM
Thanks!!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:41 PM
Hi Bud!
Lizbot (host) 5:07:57 PM
@Bud - Thanks! I’ve been having a lot of fun with them!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:08:14 PM
Vermont is spectacular today. Almost 90! Super sunny and clear. Getting closer to swimming hole weather!
Lizbot (host) 5:10:34 PM
@Addie - Whoa!! Really?! Dang! We haven’t had any days anywhere near as hot here year this year, and I’m glad! It’s like 74 here right now.
ROFFLESTOMP 5:11:45 PM
Oh my, so good today. Drowning in this stuff today! I'll catch a breath later.
Dennis Lobot 5:12:01 PM
Happy tripleplusgood anniversary show!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:03 PM
@Addie - It wasn’t even that hot in VT when I was there last summer, but it was sunny AF. I got a sunburn for the first time in a long time.
Lizbot (host) 5:12:13 PM
DROP
Lizbot (host) 5:12:22 PM
This song is so indulgent! I love it!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:38 PM
Hi Rofflestomp! Thanks!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:54 PM
Hi Dennis! Thanks!!!+++
Lizbot (host) 5:16:10 PM
@Dennis - the Tampopo episode of MVM was great! That’s one of the movies I’d really love a vintage poster of! There are a couple great illustrated posters of that movie I’d love to find!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:17:24 PM
Yeah, hoping this is a one off week. I’m not ready!
ROFFLESTOMP 5:17:32 PM
Who scores posters?!? Too friggin cool!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:17:55 PM
Gotta put in my AC or the snake will overheat, too!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:18:13 PM
Hiya Roffle!
Lizbot (host) 5:18:15 PM
@addie - yeah it’s nuts! I want an actual SPRING! We had a buncha freakishly cold weather recently, but I’ll take that over too hot!
Dennis Lobot 5:18:52 PM
I want to be rich just to have the wall space for lots of movie posters.
Dennis Lobot 5:19:18 PM
And yes Tampopo is great!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:20:08 PM
Yessss, more TMBG!
Lizbot (host) 5:20:12 PM
@Dennis - You can tell Mary I used to frequent that 21st & Sansom original location of Tampopo back in my 20s. I lived in a lil studio on 16th & Spruce from the late 90s through the mid-2000s and it was one of my go-to’s! 🍣
Lizbot (host) 5:20:33 PM
@Addie - Yes! After Birdhouse, my next favorite is Ana Ng
Lizbot (host) 5:20:57 PM
@Dennis - haha, I totally don’t have wall space for all the posters I have so I have to rotate them
ROFFLESTOMP 5:21:21 PM
@Addie - Please tell me its no snowing. :)
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:21:34 PM
@roffle no! Almost 90!!!
ROFFLESTOMP 5:21:50 PM
lol
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:22:04 PM
@lizbot not sure I could even pick my fave songs of theirs. So many good ones.
Lizbot (host) 5:22:10 PM
@Rofflestomp - There used to be a great vintage poster store in Bordentown, NJ, near the Riverline train, and the owner apparently listens to my show, as my mom discovered one day!
Dennis Lobot 5:23:07 PM
Lots of singing going on here.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:23:19 PM
@roffle I’m currently pining for the swimming gorge.
Lizbot (host) 5:23:58 PM
@Addie - Srsly! I am so sad my shore plans conflict with the rescheduled TMBG Flood anniversary show in June. I’ve had tickets since 2020. I might have to just make the drive from Long Beach Island to Philly and back in the same night for that show!
ROFFLESTOMP 5:24:01 PM
Nice!
Lizbot (host) 5:24:17 PM
@Dennis - nice!
ROFFLESTOMP 5:26:59 PM
I have this thing for going to Ceder lakes with friends, but I love North Jersey. Mountians? Jersey? Awesome!
ROFFLESTOMP 5:28:23 PM
Also, every ones dad owned a shore house when I was a kid.
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 5:28:34 PM
Hello everyone
Lizbot (host) 5:29:04 PM
@Rofflestomp - I spent childhood summers swimming in the cedar lakes of the Pine Barrens, esp at Camp Matollionequay. Loved canoeing there. Didn’t love the occasional leeches I saw clinging to the dock’s wooden steps!
Lizbot (host) 5:29:30 PM
Hello Rob! 🦢 🐦 🦅
ROFFLESTOMP 5:30:06 PM
Lol! Right on.
Lizbot (host) 5:31:04 PM
@Roffle - I was one of those Jersey kids who always crashed at OTHER people’s shore houses because we couldn’t begin to afford our own, BUT so many people I knew did- friends, cousins, et.al. There was ALWAYS someone down the shore I could stay with at any given time, even if it was to just sleep in a hallway, which it usually was
Dennis Lobot 5:31:22 PM
@Liz did you ever go to an abandoned mental institution somewhere in the pine barrens (I think)? I remember kayaking and a ton of people were there.
ROFFLESTOMP 5:33:17 PM
Same here Liz, My friends had those LBI places for sure. We would bring the fire wood with us.
Lizbot (host) 5:33:49 PM
@Dennis - Whoa! No! I probably would have had I known! I explored Byberry abandoned mental institution in NE Philly/Bucks with my friends in my 20s on more than more occasion and took some creepy photos there! There was some kind of [probably toxic] fungus growing out of a wall of pharmaceutical drawers pulled out at various angles - it looked cool, so damn our lungs!
ROFFLESTOMP 5:35:12 PM
Spent lots of time off season. loved it.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:35:26 PM
@lizbot I’d say the drive would be worth it!!
Lizbot (host) 5:35:59 PM
@Roffle - The super frustrating thing is: My mom’s dad actually bought two undeveloped lots in LBI way back in the 30s when it was dirt cheap, lots of the island was just wild with occasional cedar sharks fishing shacks, and he could’ve held on top them, but he sold them in the early 60s just before things really took off there!
Lizbot (host) 5:36:15 PM
@addie - I should do it, yeah!
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 5:36:39 PM
@Lizbot, yesterday I was telling someone about the catbird that hates you.
ROFFLESTOMP 5:38:14 PM
@Lizbot - So true! Everyone bought up those properties for a few coins back then.
Lizbot (host) 5:38:21 PM
@Roffle - I love to go there off-season. I love beach walking when it isn’t crowded!
ROFFLESTOMP 5:39:13 PM
Off season and a jacket on the beach alone is priceless!
Lizbot (host) 5:39:23 PM
@Rob - haha! That catbird is BACK in spades! It is filled with rage! It believes my deck rightfully belongs to it and it will not be reasoned with
Lizbot (host) 5:40:23 PM
@Roffle - For real! Even in June it’s too early to swim yet - water still a bit too chilly, and I feel I’m not a cold water wuss so I still will go in if it’s low-tide - but it’s so much more relaxed there then!
Dennis Lobot 5:41:02 PM
@rofflestomp I love going to Asbury park in the off-season to hang out at silverball.
ROFFLESTOMP 5:42:17 PM
Toes in the water anytime please!
Lizbot (host) 5:43:02 PM
@Roffle - My mom’s Uncle Harrington lived in one of those cedar fisherman huts in LBI and fished every chance he got. He owned a “yum-yum” shop (water-ice mixed with cream) and my mom worked there in the summers as a teen in the 50s! Honestly, yum-yum aren’t as good as gelati soft-serve with water-ice
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 5:44:00 PM
@Lizbot, there were a couple of catbirds in my neighborhood on my afternoon walk that dgaf when I walked by. One of them was across the street at a neighbor's bird feeders.
ROFFLESTOMP 5:47:53 PM
@LIZ - Gosh! AWESOME! Just to live a bit of the dream and get to hang there! That's so cool!
Lizbot (host) 5:47:58 PM
@Rob - they are BOLD. My friend who has a lot of feeders in her yard loves them because she says they are very polite and always wait their turn at the feeder! Ha! Not in my experience! She also likes that they eat the grape jelly and oranges she puts out. 🍊 🐦
Lizbot (host) 5:49:01 PM
@Roffle - I never met Uncle Harrington but I heard many stories about him. He was a character, apparently!
Lizbot (host) 5:51:44 PM
@rob - mAybe the catbirds are intimidated by other birds at the feeder, but certainly not by us humans!
Ossy Hyouka 5:51:52 PM
Hi
Lizbot (host) 5:52:18 PM
Hi Ossy!!
ROFFLESTOMP 5:52:37 PM
@Lizbot - My favorite uncle designed nuclear reactors. Loved that guy, but I loved his cool stuff too when it came to stuff.
Lizbot (host) 5:53:17 PM
@Ossy - Did you catch the 8-bit chip-tune epic I played at the top of the show today? Made me think of your gaming adventures!
Ossy Hyouka 5:54:13 PM
Yeah! Heard many arcadic gaming stuff, like from DJ Milky Way!
Lizbot (host) 5:55:01 PM
@Rofflestomp - My favorite uncle worked for a toy company out in Spokane in the 80s and used to send me care packages of free toys! Pretty sweet! Before that he worked for proctor and gamble and sent stuff like boxes of cake mix and other random P&G products.
Lizbot (host) 5:57:25 PM
@Ossy - I started off at 5 with Philly’s own Chromelodeon, which plays both 8-bit original compositions inspired by old NES & SEGA games and also covers songs from those games’ soundtracks, like Ninja Gaiden, etc.
ROFFLESTOMP 5:58:32 PM
@Lizbot - Uncles are best!
Lizbot (host) 6:00:35 PM
@Ossy - I loved seeing them live in the early to mid 2000s Then they broke up and reformed as Cheap Dinosaurs, which is similar and also good, but Chromolodeon had a great reunion show at PhilaMOCA a few years back that was one of my favorite shows there.
Lizbot (host) 6:00:48 PM
@Rofflestomp - They are awesomely avuncular!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:01:19 PM
My moms brother worked for Colgate, but I don't remember lots of free toothpastes.
ROFFLESTOMP 6:01:25 PM
:)
Lizbot (host) 6:03:14 PM
@Ossy - and ALSO, (I think you’d like this,) they used to let audience members play those original NES & SEGA games and they’d project the game on a screen behind them on stage!
Lizbot (host) 6:03:40 PM
@Rofflestomp - That wouldn’t be as fun! 🦷
ROFFLESTOMP 6:04:56 PM
Never thought happy time and dentist in the same sentence before now for for sure. :)
Lizbot (host) 6:05:53 PM
@Roffle - Kind of the opposite of a toothpaste co, my mom’s dad worked at Sealtest Ice Cream in the 40s & 50s and brought home huge tubs of leftover ice cream, so all the neighborhood kids came over after school and shared them with my mom and her brother before they melted cuz they were way too big to fit in their freezer! 🍦
Dennis Lobot 6:05:55 PM
More video games at shows, please! Yay, AC!
Dennis Lobot 6:07:13 PM
I got into chip tunes looking for Animal Collective. I was searching for them and stumbled onto 8-bit collective, a site where anyone could submit chiptunes. There was a lot of cool stuff on that site.
ROFFLESTOMP 6:10:16 PM
@Lizbot - I sorta want to go to the dentist now... :)0
Lizbot (host) 6:11:12 PM
@Dennis - Nice! There’s also a good project called 8-Bit Operators I’ve played on ++good before where various chiptune artists cover the music of Kraftwerk 🤖
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:13:02 PM
Omgosh chip tune Kraftwerk sounds amazing.
Dennis Lobot 6:13:05 PM
@liz awesome, I’ll check it out!
Lizbot (host) 6:13:55 PM
@Roffle - 😆 My mom’s childhood stories sound like some scene out of the movie Avalon, but Jersey-ified. She had another uncle who worked in the factory of RCA Victor in Camden and back then they have employees discounted TVs so her house was the first on the block to have a TV, which, along with the free ice cream, made her very popular in the neighborhood for a while!
Lizbot (host) 6:15:06 PM
@Addie - it’s so good! Esp the Oliver Wittchow cover of Kristallo
ROFFLESTOMP 6:15:13 PM
@Liz - Solid smart move!
Bud Burroughs 6:16:19 PM
I think Dave's Canterbury part 1 show is tomorrow. This is a good warmup!
JimmyCarter IsMy Hero 6:17:45 PM
First Thursday in ages that I've been able to tune in, glad to get to listen!
Ossy Hyouka 6:17:53 PM
COOL, indeed Liz! Never knew they let audiences play nes and sega games from behind on stage!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:18:55 PM
Addie and no snow. I shall adjust.
Lizbot (host) 6:19:08 PM
L Lizbot (host)6:18 PM @Bud - True! This was the album that introduced me to the whole Canterbury scene. I bought it used at The Book Trader on South Street when I was about 12 cuz the covering had moving parts - like watch cogs - and a butt!
Lizbot (host) 6:19:47 PM
Hi JimmyCarter IsMy Hero! I’m so glad you got a chance to tune in today! 📻 🤖
Ossy Hyouka 6:20:34 PM
Ninja Gaiden is a boss game, never finished it though, due to stopping for others and daily activities. There's a fan game crossover the 1985 Super Mario Bros game with chars like Link, Mega Man, Pit the Angel, Ryu(Ninja Gaiden), Bill from Contra, Samus and Simon Belmont!
Bud Burroughs 6:21:24 PM
I had a later pressing of the record. No moving parts!
Lizbot (host) 6:21:34 PM
@Ossy - yeah, that was fun! And their later incarnation, as the band Cheap Dinosaurs, is great too, but a little less directly influenced by those 80s game soundtracks
Dennis Lobot 6:22:04 PM
There should be 8-bit Stereolab covers.
ROFFLESTOMP 6:22:43 PM
Jimmy Carter was the last smart president. He could answer six or more questions at a time. Just look at the reels!
Lizbot (host) 6:23:03 PM
@Dennis - There should! StereoBit? I feel like there is a better name out there for that… StereoSquareWave?…Not quite!
Lizbot (host) 6:23:25 PM
@Rofflestomp - True! And he built houses!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:23:43 PM
And does it still!
Lizbot (host) 6:24:24 PM
@Bud - That is criminal! Is nothing scared?! Not even moving cogs that reveal butts on album covers? 🤦🏻‍♀️
Bud Burroughs 6:25:49 PM
Even worse was my later pressing of Brain Salad Surgery. It didn't open to reveal a face!
Lizbot (host) 6:25:54 PM
@Ossy - oh wow! I wanna see that! I loved Mario and Super Mario 2 back in the day but somehow never played Mega Man until I got it on an emulator in the early 2000s and it was so much fun and had a great soundtrack! I don’t know how I never rented that one from the local video/game rental place as a kid!
Lizbot (host) 6:26:34 PM
@Roffle - Yes! He’s a badass!
Bud Burroughs 6:26:47 PM
And Roffle, I thought the last guy said he was the smartest prezident. Are you implying that he was lying? :)
Lizbot (host) 6:28:00 PM
@Bud - Oh no! Benny the Bouncer needs to get in there and knock some record label heads together!
Lizbot (host) 6:28:26 PM
@Bud - 😂 😂 😂 😭
ROFFLESTOMP 6:28:38 PM
@Bud Burroughs - I did not really imply, I just said it out right.

Hi Mary! Great Tampopo show! Imight’ve seen yr librarian friend at that 21st & Sansom original Tampopo location since I ate there frequently back in the early 2000s!
Mary Jones 6:32:41 PM
You may have even seen me! I’m so glad you liked the show!
Ossy Hyouka 6:32:50 PM
In the middle school to early college days, I was on the 1st Mega Man game and on post final week, I defeated Dr. Wily and his army, and was a kickoff to summer!! Super Mario Bros 2, played that occasionally, never got too too far. I usually play that annually on Ash Wednesdays, because I was playing SM2 in the middle school before church and since made that a "tradition" lol.
Lizbot (host) 6:32:53 PM
Hi Kristin! - YAY! If 20 years doesn’t warrant a 3-parted celebration, than I don’t know what does! 📻 ❤️
Mary Jones 6:33:09 PM
(Tonight’s show is a little rougher.)
ROFFLESTOMP 6:33:33 PM
Gosh, the Philly Library system wants your love if you live here!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:33:56 PM
Just sign up.
Lizbot (host) 6:33:56 PM
@Mary - Haha, probably. I lived in an studio not far from there at the time. I loved their tofu teriyaki bento box with egg cakes and green tea ice cream for dessert! 🍨
Ossy Hyouka 6:34:22 PM
Liz - The Mario Crossover game is internet based I believe, its literally playing the original Mario Bros, but with crossover characters and their abilities! Another iconic flash game is Super Smash Flash 1 and 2, which are based on the Smash Bros series!
Dennis Lobot 6:34:51 PM
@liz ster8o-bit? That’s the best I can think of, there’s a slew of internet radio sites called stereoBIT and some albums, but they don’t seem groop-influenced.
Lizbot (host) 6:36:17 PM
@Rofflestomp - It’s true! God, I used to rent French New Wave and Italian neo-realist movies for free from the main Phila Public Library branch on 19th & Vine all the time in my early 20s. I served food with Food Not Bombs in the park just across from that branch every Sunday. Now libraries don’t even have Saturday hours! It really bums my kid out too
Li Maria 6:37:15 PM
This is the epitome of summer--forgot how much I liked this album! Hi Lizbot--happy 20th!!!
Lizbot (host) 6:37:30 PM
@Mary & Dennis - I was scarred by The Toy as a kid! One of my most hated movies. Loooking forward to hearing yr take
Mary Jones 6:38:00 PM
@Lizbot it’s so frustrating how badly things have fallen off with library services in the last 20 years.
Mary Jones 6:38:14 PM
@Lizbot the episode will be 30 minutes of me screaming.
Lizbot (host) 6:38:27 PM
Hi Li Maria! Yes! SO good, Merriweather! Always inspired to play it on the first warm sunny days of the season! 🌞
Lizbot (host) 6:39:41 PM
@Dennis - 🤔 that is an option but possibly confusing to search for and pronounce! We need to workshop this!
Lizbot (host) 6:39:57 PM
@Mary - 😂 😂 😂
Lizbot (host) 6:41:29 PM
@Mary - That movie was for some reason (likely the rights to it were cheap since it was such a dud) on tv a LOT when I was a kid and I’d often encounter bits of it while flipping around channels and it just depressed me
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:42:58 PM
Z is super stoked you’re playing this song!!
Lizbot (host) 6:44:04 PM
@Ossy - 😆 I love that as an Ash Wednesday tradition! My all-time favorite game as a kid (and to this day, along wirh Katamari Damacy) is Super Mario Bros 2. It’s so good and so long and fun but challenging and I loved playing Princess not cuz I liked girly things but because they freakin FLOATED! You can’t deny that power!
Krista 6:44:10 PM
Having a bizarre celebration right now cleaning my kitchen and listening
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:44:20 PM
I’d like to pretend I’m in Antarctica right now!
Dennis Lobot 6:45:59 PM
@liz I was always excited to see Richard Pryor on tv so I’d watch for a while each time but the Toy was bad.
ROFFLESTOMP 6:45:59 PM
@Lizbot - I guess we could stage a cruz... Just sayin'
Lizbot (host) 6:46:19 PM
@addie - haha, I love this song so much. Saw of Montreal a lot in the late 90s/early 2000s and then suddenly they were playing way larger venues! I wish I’d seen the tour where Kevin Barnes wore basically nothing but glitter 😆 Did you ever watch the showtime show Weeds? They used this song in a memorable scene
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 6:47:12 PM
Whoa, I did watch Weeds but it’s been so long! Will have to go try and look up the scene.
Lizbot (host) 6:47:18 PM
@Addie - Aw! Tell Z “Hi!” from me! 🎨
Lizbot (host) 6:47:52 PM
Hi Krista! Haha, it is a bouncy and energizing song for all your cleaning energy needs! 🧽 🧹
Lizbot (host) 6:49:19 PM
@Dennis - The Toy was so wrong. It made me feel bad for the waste of his talent! WHY?! Who thought it was a good idea?! 😣
Ossy Hyouka 6:49:51 PM
Liz - Princess Peach so cute like Palutena from Kid Icarus, Liz. Her long white gloves exudes elegance and grace with her character. I recall fondly playing Super Princess Peach on DS, and her 1st game as a stand alone protagonist!
Lizbot (host) 6:51:44 PM
I had to play S P A R K S again! “Check out my frozen pizzas” line always cracks me up! 🍕 🍕
ROFFLESTOMP 6:52:26 PM
Sparks is a given... lol
Lizbot (host) 6:52:49 PM
@Roffle - Truth
Ossy Hyouka 6:53:08 PM
Sparks flying 💛⭐⚡
Lizbot (host) 6:53:52 PM
@Ossy - Whoa, I wasn’t even aware of Super Princess Peach! Sounds like a game I’d like! I didn’t have DS. That was a period I wasn’t gaming much
Krista 6:54:11 PM
Playing all my favorites tonight
ROFFLESTOMP 6:54:15 PM
Belle and Sebastian is a nice chord as a rule as far as as as I can tell.
Krista 6:54:50 PM
I'm in my ungaming period now, Lizbot. Too much childcare and other hobbies and lying in despair in a field, etc
ROFFLESTOMP 6:56:24 PM
Krista lying in despair or diapers?
Lizbot (host) 6:57:16 PM
Rofflestomp - Belle & Sebastian are coming to Philly in June!!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:57:44 PM
At my place at ten?
Lizbot (host) 6:57:56 PM
@Krista -no gaming, but yr garden looks amazing!
ROFFLESTOMP 6:58:38 PM
Looking at this.
Ossy Hyouka 7:00:33 PM
Very exciting Liz, Super Princess Peach came out around 2005 and she has more super powers of emotions into elements like rage fire, sadness water, joy wind and calm healing(though not element based) and has a talking umbrella that can make her eat enemies lol
ROFFLESTOMP 7:02:17 PM
Rundgren went there, and yet no one even does, I don't get that at all if you look at his work.
Lizbot (host) 7:03:45 PM
@Ossy - I want a talking umbrella that eats enemies! ☂
Lizbot (host) 7:04:52 PM
@Krista - it’s the time of year for wistful field musings
Lizbot (host) 7:07:43 PM
@Roffle - Rundgren was an early advocate of Sparks and put out one of their early albums on his Bearsville label, and for that I am grateful. Plus I’m grateful for his music!
ROFFLESTOMP 7:10:21 PM
Correction... Bobby McFerrin
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:10:25 PM
@ Lizbot (host) DoublePlusGood edition of DOUBLEPLUSGOOD! Question: Was there another record play between "Healer" and "Golden Boy"? I think it was a 1970s or '80s, maybe Brit, classic with soaring female voices. But I don't recall its title. Help, thanks!
Lizbot (host) 7:10:58 PM
Hi Richard!
Lizbot (host) 7:13:11 PM
@Richard - During the show tonight?? There wasn’t a song between those two songs
ROFFLESTOMP 7:14:04 PM
Gosh, the A cappella from is just fine.
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:14:30 PM
@ Lizbot (host) Okay, it must have been the latter part of the Rundgren number.
Mary Jones 7:20:44 PM
Oh wow, I like this song, but I never knew what it was.
Alan Pasnyk 7:24:40 PM
Hi Lizbot!!! Yes I really liked "Slapp Happy"....a real Lizzy Lizbot tune!!!
Lizbot (host) 7:24:42 PM
@Mary - of Montreal track or Slapp Happy? I love both! Dagmar Krause of Slapp Happy kindly wrote back to me when I wrote her a fan letter!
ROFFLESTOMP 7:25:01 PM
Thanks a bunch Lizbot
Lizbot (host) 7:25:09 PM
@Richard - That’s what I figured you were referring to.‘maybe the part with the woman’s voice?
Lizbot (host) 7:25:28 PM
Hi Alan! I think so too! Glad you liked it!
Mary Jones 7:25:39 PM
Ok, music confession: when I was younger I thought “Save It for Later” was Pete Townsend.
Mary Jones 7:25:50 PM
@Lizbot Slap Happy!
Dennis Lobot 7:26:00 PM
I love this song! I tried singing it at karaoke, but my voice couldn’t handle it.
Lizbot (host) 7:26:05 PM
@Roffle - thanks! Wait…what about Bobby McFerrin?
Dennis Lobot 7:26:33 PM
Pete Townsend thought the same thing.
Alan Pasnyk 7:27:38 PM
The English Beat......Music to watch catbirds by ...:)
Lizbot (host) 7:27:44 PM
@Mary - There is a whole story about that! Pete Townsend apparently LOVED this song when it came out and called one of the English Beat guys to rave about the song, and the guy didn’t believe it was really PT and assumed his friend was pranking him! There is an interview online inclduifn
Mary Jones 7:28:21 PM
@Lizbot oh, I need to read up on that!!
Lizbot (host) 7:28:45 PM
@mary …including that anecdote. But it does sorta sound like Pete AND Pete asked for permission fo cover it and it became a staple in his live shows
ROFFLESTOMP 7:28:50 PM
I met Bobby long ago. He is good. There you have it. The rest is his. Love you Liz!'
Mary Jones 7:28:53 PM
That’s so cool Slapp Happy wrote you back!
Lizbot (host) 7:29:02 PM
@Mary - Speaking of Pete Townsend….
Mary Jones 7:29:13 PM
Ok, so I’m not crazy!
Lizbot (host) 7:29:27 PM
I love that little Keith Moon drum fill there 🥁
Lizbot (host) 7:29:41 PM
@Mary- No, you are not!
Mary Jones 7:29:53 PM
Moon is easily my favorite drummer
Lizbot (host) 7:30:22 PM
@Roffle - Ah! Nice! He seems like a fun guy to see live!
Lizbot (host) 7:30:47 PM
@Alan - haha! 🎶 🐦
Lizbot (host) 7:31:07 PM
@Dennis - Pete Townsend WISHES he wrote it!
Lizbot (host) 7:32:43 PM
@Mary - Moon was so great and such a total nutball. Ever see his bizarre show he had with Ringo Starr? It was NSFW! There was a clip of it in The Who documentary The Kids Are Alright. I never wanna see Ringo in bondage gear again!
Mary Jones 7:33:09 PM
WELL NOW I HAVE TO SEE THAT
Dennis Lobot 7:34:45 PM
@liz I know! Somewhere I have a live performance of Pete playing that song in a hour long show on MTV.
Dennis Lobot 7:35:31 PM
I don’t think I want to see Ringo in bondage gear a first time.
Lizbot (host) 7:36:19 PM
@Dennis - No, you do not. It’s…scarring. The Octopus’ Garden wasn’t meant for such things
richard lyons 7:37:52 PM
Soooo GOOOOD! Listening on Tune In for the last 8 hours. first time back at the chat. Thanks to YOU, Sarah and Eso!
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 7:38:25 PM
I haven't heard this Penguin Cafe Orchestra piece in eons. It's good to hear it again.
Lizbot (host) 7:42:09 PM
@Mary - The Kids Are Alright is my favorite music doc. I’ll always be nostalgic about it because I had a pretty intense Who phase in middle school and watched that doc an embarrassing number of times (minimum once a week!) my parents thought I was nuts for watching it so much so I started only watching it when they were out!
Lizbot (host) 7:42:52 PM
@Rob - I love 🐧 ☕️ 🎻! So sad Simon Jeffes died young
Mary Jones 7:42:59 PM
I need to watch that. I was weirdly into the movie Tommy until my mom wanted to watch it with me once and I faked being sick.
Mary Jones 7:43:23 PM
She turned it off during the Marilyn communion.
Lizbot (host) 7:43:23 PM
Hi Richard Lyon! Glad you’re enjoying!!
Lizbot (host) 7:45:05 PM
@Mary - Haha, I loved Tommy too, but watched TKAA way more. The whole Ann-Margret baked beans scene was great maximalist excess, but uncomfortable to watch with parents!
Lizbot (host) 7:46:00 PM
@Mary - I DID drag my mom to the Tommy musical on broadway when it first opened. She…tolerated it 😂
Mary Jones 7:46:42 PM
So uncomfortable…
Lizbot (host) 7:48:20 PM
@Mary - very much so!
jimbeaux 7:48:46 PM
yeooo Lizbot! Happy 20 to the 3rd celebratory POWER!
Lizbot (host) 7:48:55 PM
Sooooooaring Minnie vocals ❤️
Ossy Hyouka 7:49:10 PM
Minnie, Maya Rudolph's angelic mom! 🌸💟
Lizbot (host) 7:49:26 PM
Hi jimbeaux! Thank you! I am indulging in a super-long celebration that’s triple plus good!
richard lyons 7:49:29 PM
Dang! CLASSIC!!
Lizbot (host) 7:49:48 PM
@Ossy - Maya Rudolph is an utter goddess like her goddess mother!
Lizbot (host) 7:50:08 PM
@Richard Lyons - For real! 🌸 🌺
Lizbot (host) 7:51:21 PM
@Richard in Rocky Hill - ah, I can see how the last bit of that Healer track could sound like a different track!
Lizbot (host) 7:53:10 PM
Weyes Blood = Doylestown native (and Flannery O’Connor fan) Natalie Mering
Dennis Lobot 7:53:28 PM
every few shows on WPRB: oh that’s right, I love Weyes Blood.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 7:53:44 PM
This song has been on my faves list since last time I heard it on your show!
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 7:54:04 PM
@dennis same!!!
Alan Pasnyk 7:54:44 PM
Right, so I just checked, Weyes Blood is from Doylestown Pa. area....Wasn't sure my memory was right, nice way to end the show....
Phil O 7:56:07 PM
Townshend DVD "Deep End Live" has a cover. Available on utube
Lizbot (host) 7:56:15 PM
@Dennis - She’s great! Saw her play in a buncha Philly band basement shows and friends’ houses before she hit the big time! I don’t know if she’s still a ++good listener, but she was for years! She used to call into the studio to chat during my show
Lizbot (host) 7:56:54 PM
@Addie - Glad you enjoy Weyes Blood! She just gets better and better!
Lizbot (host) 7:57:27 PM
Hi Phil O - Hi! Oh the English Beat/The Beat Save It for Later cover? Nice!
Ossy Hyouka 7:58:28 PM
💜💖💛🤍
Lizbot (host) 7:58:30 PM
@Alan - yeah, that whole Titanic Rising album by Weyes Blood is so great! Front Row Seat to Earth album is great too, but TR is my favorite.
Dennis Lobot 7:59:25 PM
@phil I’m checking that PT vid later. I love that era Pete.
Alan Pasnyk 7:59:56 PM
Thanks for the music Lizbot!! bcnu
Dennis Lobot 7:59:57 PM
Thanks for the great show Liz!
Rob from Maryland 🇺🇦 🌻 🦀 🐦 8:00:08 PM
Another good show, thanks Lizbot! Watch out for the catbirds!
Dennis Lobot 8:00:29 PM
I didn’t even realize it was time!
Lizbot (host) 8:00:32 PM
@Addie / Alan / Dennis - the craziest time I saw Natalie (Weyes Blood) perform was at a mid 2000s Halloween show at a friend’s house where she sang black metal screamy vocals wirh my husband’s housemate’s band, Satanized! I also saw her perform on top of a bus!
Mary Jones 8:00:47 PM
Thankk youfor another excellent show!
Lizbot (host) 8:01:59 PM
Thanks, Dennis! Thanks, Rob! Thanks, Mary! thanks Alan & Ossy and Addie and Richard and other Richard and Phil and jimbeaux and roffle and everyone! See you next week I hope! 🤖 📻
Lizbot (host) 8:03:15 PM
Thanks Krista and Kristin and Li Maria and Bud and JimmyCarter and anyone I might be forgetting!
