Can we talk about this? ;-) https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Yellow-breasted_Chat/photo-gallery/64916141
Rob from Maryland 5:03:00 PM
Jon, where was the photo taken?
Jon Solomon (host) 5:03:13 PM
Clicking on link...
Rob from Maryland 5:03:25 PM
It's a very pretty bird
DSM 5:03:28 PM
omg I was at the buried man today myself! Hey Jon, Rob.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:03:58 PM
Which bird? Looks like a real meepy bird. Which is the best kind of bird.
Rob from Maryland 5:04:13 PM
Hi Jon and DSM
DSM 5:04:17 PM
I actually didn't know it was there but went to explore the park. Also a great lunch at Peasant Grill in town.
Dan Wade 5:08:47 PM
Hi Jon, Hi et al.
Rob from Maryland 5:09:11 PM
There's a similar sculpture in the DC area called "The Awakening" https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g7791276-d6902298-Reviews-The_Awakening_Sculpture-National_Harbor_Maryland.html. The arms are rather similar
Andrew G 5:09:20 PM
i drove by that sculpture Sunday and it was a definitely a surprise!
Rob from Maryland 5:10:39 PM
Jon, it's meepy and it's pretty. And it (Yellow-breasted Chat) likes to remain hidden while it sings. I was lucky to see one last year
Jon Solomon (host) 5:10:44 PM
Same sculptor. Apparently there's going to be a whole year-long series of these pieces. Don't love everything Seward Johnson does (some of the "sculptures of paintings" are corny to me) but this is fantastic.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:11:35 PM
Some more pictures for scale: https://www.instagram.com/p/CsNJI_qtmd1/?hl=en
Rob from Maryland 5:15:06 PM
That hand rising out of the ground is my favorite part of those sculptures
Jon Solomon (host) 5:15:13 PM
DSM 5:15:23 PM
Jon, do you know if this piece is permanent or a temporary installation?
Rob from Maryland 5:15:26 PM
Hi Dan and Andrew G
Jon Solomon (host) 5:15:33 PM
I tried to get a picture of the whole thing but there were too many other people milling about.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:15:45 PM
DSM looks like it will be up at least six months...
Jon Solomon (host) 5:16:09 PM
"If fundraising is successful, Lipson said, 14 of Johnson’s life-sized sculptures will be installed throughout Hopewell Valley for a six-month period."
Jon Solomon (host) 5:16:52 PM
"An opening ceremony for The Awakening will be held on Sunday, May 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at D&R Greenway’s St. Michaels Farm Preserve. Members of the community are invited to attend a celebration that will include dance, poetry, and music."
DSM 5:18:32 PM
Very fun. Was quite neat to stumble upon that, not expecting it. Hope they are able to do the rest as planned.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:19:11 PM
@DSM, we very much made a u-turn to go back and see it after we passed it. Had dinner at Ottoburger and their beet burger rules.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:19:36 PM
Haven't ordered from Peasant Grill in a while...
Rob from Maryland 5:20:07 PM
I knew next to nothing about Johnson and all the versions. The original statue was moved from Hains Point in DC (which is the same place as the title of the Rites Of Spring song) to another location 15 years ago and I don't think I've seen it there
Jon Solomon (host) 5:20:36 PM
Grounds for Sculpture, the park in Hamilton NJ, is Johnson's doing. Worth a visit for sure.
Rob from Maryland 5:21:10 PM
I'll have to stop there whenever I'm next in that part of New Jersey
Jon Solomon (host) 5:21:41 PM
If you've ever been to Storm King, it is a like a smaller version of that.
DSM 5:23:13 PM
I actually kinda like Grounds for Sculpture better than Storm King, content wise
DSM 5:23:47 PM
Still have to try the restaurant there, Rats?
Jon Solomon (host) 5:24:01 PM
Interesting! I find GfS doesn't take as many risks as I would like but their evening light show / audio installation series was a step in the right direction.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:24:18 PM
There used to be a cafe inside of Rats I quite liked.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:25:47 PM
Like, I saw The Feelies / could have seen Lee Ranaldo at Storm King and that would never happen at GfS.
DSM 5:25:52 PM
I totally forgot about the light show, meant to see it, and didn't see it.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:26:14 PM
DSM, I expect they'll do it again. Was one of the most exciting things there to me programming-wise.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:26:26 PM
More interactive than I expected.
DSM 5:28:44 PM
I didn't realize Storm King had performances, yeah that would be excellent if GfS did that!
DSM 5:29:46 PM
Reminds me I need to check out Opus 40 too
Jon Solomon (host) 5:29:53 PM
What's that?
DSM 5:30:44 PM
DSM 5:31:32 PM
Sculpture park in Saugerties NY, they had some bands play there about a year ago as well, that of course I missed
Jon Solomon (host) 5:32:05 PM
Oh nice. I stumbled into a rather small but lovely sculpture park out by you a few months back at Tyler State Park.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:32:37 PM
DSM 5:35:11 PM
Oh yeah that one! They have a ceramics studio right there too, open to public for use. Tyler is such a great park. Literally 5 minutes from me.
DSM 5:36:17 PM
While on the subject if you
Jon Solomon (host) 5:36:26 PM
I have found myself over there a lot recently. A gem.
DSM 5:36:48 PM
are ever out near New Hope this place was really awesome grounds, gardens and sculptures https://www.paxsonhillfarm.com/
Jon Solomon (host) 5:37:38 PM
Thank you! I will be over in New Hope on Friday so we'll see...
Jon Solomon (host) 5:38:45 PM
Dan Wade I totally missed you pop in!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:39:12 PM
Hope everyone's doing OK out there.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:43:23 PM
Am I having the wrong conversations with the wrong people or are fewer folks talking about the new New Pornographers record than I expected?
DSM 5:46:48 PM
The New Pornographers is one of those bands I somehow just missed completely, besides reading about them or knowing of their existence. Sounds good tho!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:46:53 PM
Topic for later: Bands that you could argue put their best song on a compilation, not their own album.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:47:59 PM
DSM, you should really hear their first 2-3 records in full. Pretty amazing. The new one didn't completely grab me but I liked it well enough. Felt a bit compressed sonically which is something I don't usually notice...
James Totally 5:48:31 PM
Oooo, I like this song
Jon Solomon (host) 5:49:09 PM
That's how you make an entrance, James!
James Totally 5:49:50 PM
hahaha right on
Jon Solomon (host) 5:50:08 PM
Glad to have you (and everyone else) back for another Wednesday night.
Guelo<3 5:58:20 PM
Great selecting me DJ. Thenkd
Guelo<3 5:58:43 PM
I like that typo
DSM 6:01:45 PM
Guelo I'm adding Thenkd to my vocabulary I like that lol
Carlos Ramone. 6:04:36 PM
Friday would have been Joey Ramone’s birthday. Keep that in mind when choosing attire for the day. Dress code be dammed

Carlos, so many 5/19 birthdays! I have at least 5x on my calendar alone.

Nice one! Just saw Mr Brokaw Monday night playing with Come. Great show.
TAndy 6:38:46 PM
Love the mood on this one
Jon Solomon (host) 6:38:50 PM
Steve, I was gonna ask how the Come show was. They were transcendent last I saw 'em.
Andrew G 6:38:53 PM
my dog perry, who is featured in my profile pic, was born 5/19/14!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:39:12 PM
Andrew! TAndy! Steve! Ambrose!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:39:57 PM
Unfortunately, I remembered about the show...when I saw a photo posted by a friend at the show.
Steve Volaric 6:42:43 PM
They were great! A band i missed back in the day. Had tickets once they were opening for Seam but couldn’t get out of work in time then. Not easy songs to just pickup and play again either. RAD drummer!
Ossy 6:43:17 PM
Hello Tan and nice mood song
Jon Solomon (host) 6:45:09 PM
I'm so glad. Wish I could also go see FACS at PhilaMoca tonight but I am pretty worn out as is.
Steve Volaric 6:47:29 PM
That’d be a good one i bet. One show a week is enough for these old bones. 😁
Rob from Maryland 6:49:03 PM
That Chris Brokaw track was a contemplative dinner-finishing piece to eat ice cream to
Jon Solomon (host) 6:49:41 PM
What flavor(u)r Ice cream?
TAndy 6:51:32 PM
That old fashioned vanilla where it looks yellow and tastes like brown sugar
Carlos Ramone. 6:54:33 PM
Best ice cream was from a dairy store in Wisconsin.
Ossy 6:55:03 PM
Strawberry sundae, oreo, Cinnabon styled ice cream. Plus ice cream with jelly
Carlos Ramone. 6:55:17 PM
Cows on the premises and a cherry orchard..
Francis 7:02:16 PM
OOh - I recognize that Arm statue from Maryland area. Was on a Marginal Man album cover.
Rob from Maryland 7:03:22 PM
My ice cream is/was Jeni's Gooey Butter Cake. Which I finished when I pulled the container out of the freezer to mention it here
Rob from Maryland 7:03:40 PM
Francis, which one?
Jon Solomon (host) 7:03:47 PM
Ha! Wow!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:03:55 PM
Back cover of this, right...?
Jon Solomon (host) 7:03:59 PM
Jon Solomon (host) 7:04:41 PM
Incredible observation, Francis.
Francis 7:05:12 PM
Yep - that's it
TAndy 7:05:22 PM
I would have loved to see FACS and Heavenly Bodies, but every concert ever just happens to fall on a workday for me. Or my work schedule is always on fun days.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:05:34 PM
The poster is even more totally it. Wild.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:05:58 PM
I know I'm going to see En Attendant Ana on 5/27 at least...
Rob from Maryland 7:06:07 PM
Ah, the back cover. I only have their Dischord album so I wasn't aware
Francis 7:06:30 PM
Saw them and many bands at the old 930 club in DC Great show.
Francis 7:07:12 PM
I think they moved that statue at some point - don't know where too.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:07:44 PM
They did move it. Was reading about where.
Rob from Maryland 7:08:11 PM
Ah, look at that!
Rob from Maryland 7:08:11 PM
I saw Marginal Man once, but I can't remember where
Jon Solomon (host) 7:08:17 PM
"The original one, which used to sit at Hains Point is now located at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. That giant now emerges from sand."
Ambrose Hughes 7:11:11 PM
Diggin' this Jon!
Rob from Maryland 7:11:59 PM
I used to see the original Awakening down at Hains Point when I was birdwatching. It was moved to National Harbor 15 years ago and I have only been there once or twice. I miss seeing the Awakening
Francis 7:17:56 PM
Hains point!! yes. I think 9353 opened up for them. Maybe the Slickee boys, or Dave Grohls original band - Scream.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:20:09 PM
Ambrose, I agree. Randomly got an email a while back from a member's father who was looking for a copy. Hadn't thought about it in ages before then!
Ambrose Hughes 7:23:18 PM
@Jon, ah, nice!
Ambrose Hughes 7:29:14 PM
John Tobias played Nude Party on his Show this morning, they play UA on the 20'th!
richard lyons:) 7:32:07 PM
Fun show Jon! I've been listening while gardening and repairing our sun umbrella.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:33:41 PM
Nice, Richard. Also, you have reminded me I need to pick up a few more solar lights for the garden on the way home...
Jon Solomon (host) 7:41:47 PM
...plus a frozen vegan pizza that I have decided I now want for dinner.
Ambrose Hughes 7:43:54 PM
Thoroughly enjoyed that, thanks Jon!
Francis 7:46:14 PM
Sorry Jon - They told me I'm taking over the barge and your house
Francis 7:47:17 PM
JK - I look forward to your show every week. Always getting new bands - thank you
Jon Solomon (host) 7:47:20 PM
Both? Back to sleeping in the car, I guess...
Jon Solomon (host) 7:47:37 PM
Glad you're out there, Francis.
TAndy 7:49:08 PM
Thank you, Jon!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:49:35 PM
You are welcome, TAndy! 🚢
Jon Solomon (host) 7:50:20 PM
Been a somewhat unmoored day, so very nice to have a decent radio show as part of it.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:57:45 PM
Took me three weeks but I finally finished with this Chills song like I planned to every Wednesday.
Rob from Maryland 7:57:54 PM
Thanks, Jon, for the show tonight!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:57:56 PM
Great to have you in the Chat chat, Rob!
Ambrose Hughes 7:59:15 PM
@Jon, good choice for a very chilly evening outside. Great show tonight, many thanks.
