DJ Llu

When I was just 13 years old, a community radio station Station Manager took a chance on me and taught me how to make radio. Ever since then, I’ve broadcast a weekly music show on community, college, and even commercial radio at stations across Vermont. This year, I came full circle and became the Station Manager at WGDR, Plainfield, the station that gave me my start.

While I am excited to lead a station, at my radio core, I am a programmer first. This is why I spend a great deal of time and thought putting together my weekly show "Get Fresh with DJ Llu" that airs on 90.1 FM WRUV since 2004, 99.3 FM WBTV-LP, since 2018, and on 91.1 FM WGDR, Plainfield and 91.7 FM WGDH, Hardwick as of 2023. There is an art to making a quality music show. I aim to take listeners on an adventure of music each week. Guiding them to discover something new while they find familiar artists or genres along the way. I’ve built a trust with my listeners, where they trust me to bring them a curated listening experience that will delight and entertain.

In 2002, I joined 99.9 the Buzz as a weekend host of their local music show “Homebrew.” A few years later I took on their new music show, “Early Warning.” When the recession hit in 2012, the Buzz canceled all their special programs and I took my new music show to WRUV, Burlington.

Currently, the show airs three times a week: live on WRUV, Burlington Sundays 9-11am; Tuesdays 12-2pm on WGDR, Plainfield & WGDH, Hardwick.; also on Tuesdays, 4-6pm and Fridays 10pm-12am on WBTV-LP, Burlington.

The show is part of both the national FMQB SubModern Rock Report Chart and the U.N.C.L.E. Promo’s K.K.B.B. chart. These two charting sources compile all the commercial, public, and community radio specialty show charts each week from a panel of about 80 new music shows from across the country. Membership on this panel is exclusive to shows and hosts who provide a truly diverse listening experience and routinely break new bands into the national scene.

A typical “Get Fresh with DJ Llu” playlist features 25-30 new singles, carefully selected weekly ranging in genres from rock, to hip-hop, to R&B, to RPM. Vermonters often hear emerging artists such as Arlo Parks, Wet Leg, SUNDUR, Brittany Howard, Vagabon, alt-J, Meshell Ndegecello, TOKiMONSTA, Matt and Kim, Yaya Bey by while listening.
