Chama Woydak is a fun-loving mother of two who has been attending
births as a birth doula in Asheville since 1999 and teaching childbirth
education classes since 2002. Chama is a Lamaze Childbirth Educator, a
trainer for the NC Perinatal Association Lamaze Childbirth Educator
Program, a certified DONA Birth Doula, and a DONA International Birth
Doula trainer, the strategic doula advisor for Sistas Caring 4 Sistas a
community based doula program in Asheville and an adjunct instructor at
UNCA teaching Doula Studies: Supporting the Childbearing Family. She is
also the owner of Homegrown Babies a large doula and childbirth
education agency in Asheville and also the owner of Homegrown Families
Health and Education Center, an integrative health center in Asheville,
NC.
Nikita Smart was inspired to become a birth doula through the
work that she was already doing in the community in the efforts of
eliminating disparities. Nikita is a certified birth doula, a
Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, a trained Lamaze childbirth educator and a
trained smoking cessation specialist. Nikita is a single parent and has
lived in the Asheville area since 2009 and has done all of this in
hopes of providing much-needed education and support to the families in
her community.
Wakina Norris was inspired to become a birth doula
after attending and assisting in the births of her own five
grandchildren. Wakina cares for the people of her community and their
well being. She embraces the gift of life for the parents and their
babies as they journey into this new world.
