The Minority Connection Intiative’s (MCI) mission is to build engaging and lasting relationships between minority students, faculty, and staff to provide support and unity within the Boston University community. For years we have done this by facilitating a variety of events tailored to the very people we aim to serve. Some of these events include: a Students of Color Welcome Reception, Empowered Women’s Brunch, and a First-generation Cafe con Leche. But, we at MCI believe that we could expand our scope and further serve the greater Boston University community through the medium of radio. Our goals for MCI at WTBU would be: create a safe space for candid, creative, and honest conversations about dynamic cultural experiences, the latest current events, and how they may be affecting those identifying as minorities; build new connections, while continuing to develop existing ones between minority communities and allies alike within the Boston University community and beyond; and lastly, facilitate impactful evaluations of the current Boston University experience with aims to improve campus life for the entirety of Boston University’s student and faculty body. MCI plans to accomplish the aforementioned goals by orienting weekly episodes around topics like: the undergraduate/graduate application process as a minority student, codeswitching, LGBT Culture, Queer POC culture at Boston University, toxic masculinity in minority communities, harmful and helpful “allyship”, and a plethora more. We at MCI plan to bring in members of the Boston University community to speak on their personal experiences with such topics. As well as, university professors who specialize in coinciding areas of research to bring forth a scholarly perspective whenever possible.
