February is the coldest (usually) and shortest (always) month of the year—and oddly enough the month designated for celebrating some of the hottest musics found on earth—African and African American musics. My African colleagues here in the US have often lamented that the month when they get the most opportunities for work is also a month when getting there can be treacherous, and there are fewer days to be able to offer. Today on ear to ear, some hot music for a cold time, with cuts from African artists Boncana Maiga, Mulatu Astatke, Cheikh Lo, Richard Bona, Manu Dibango, Afro-Peruvian singer Susana Baca, and more...followed by a second hour that continues the cold theme, but with musical commentaries on war and peace.
