What to do...My seatmate on the long flight to India in 1993 was a man named Mansukhlal Singh--I'll never forget him, or the things he said--for example, as soon as I sat down, he asked me who the richest woman in the world was. I said I didn't know. The Queen of England, he said, laughing loudly--she has all those giant gems and palaces, she gets money from everywhere. Then he offered me a hundred dollar bill--actually held it out to me--and said, "will you take this?" "uh, no, I mean, we've just met, and why....I stammered on until as if to prove his point and perhaps having vetted me as a seatmate, he said, "well, you're not greedy." He paused a little then, and said somewhat confidentially--"Mother Teresa is the richest woman in the world--she has millions and millions...of people!" In a roundabout way, Mansukhlal pointed out the true riches in this life--the people we know and love. Today's show, is titled what to do, not for this story, but for one that followed--when he spoke of life in America, he became very sad, and said he didn't understand how little people here seemed to value life--and he put it very succinctly: "I am not able to give someone life--to bring them back from the dead, so why should I be the one to kill them? Only God should do that. I agree, and can only imagine the earthly paradise that might result from everyone all at once deciding that killing and weapons are only holding us back from sharing this earth with its other inhabitants, from feeding and sheltering everyone, ensuring that they and their loved ones live to see another day. What to do? Just lay them down now.
