PeterC 1:09:32 PM
john orsi...wow!
ex DJ tamer 1:10:22 PM
trivia: Eep, Opp, Ork, Ah-ah! is a cover of a song originally sang by a character on the cartoon series The Jetsons.
JeffB (host) 1:11:34 PM
@exDJtamer that's not possible since the Jetsons takes place in the future. Hence the character had to be covering the original SciAm's version :)
ex DJ tamer 1:11:58 PM
You are probably correct, sir.
ex DJ tamer 1:13:25 PM
Does the music recognition service NOT recognize anything you are playing today?
JeffB (host) 1:16:37 PM
Didn't recognize the first 3 songs.. there'll be more.
Peter Ireland 1:17:18 PM
love is all ... great choice!
Kevin Polk 1:17:30 PM
jeffb - edge lord with the track list
PeterC 1:17:49 PM
funny...I was thinking about playing bebop deluxe this week but it did't fit in...
Kevin Polk 1:17:49 PM
can't listen today, work grumble grumble but will later!
PeterC 1:18:26 PM
although I see it uploaded ok...so I'm going to upload now...
Rav 1:22:24 PM
Loved that John Orsi song. Looking him up now.
JeffB (host) 1:26:43 PM
wow I'm glad you guys like the John Orsi.. his music never seemed to be on anyone's radar before..
JeffB (host) 1:28:02 PM
guess I'm doing way longer sets between talk breaks this time.. but @Rav I listened to you for a solid hour a couple of Sundays ago don't think I heard you talk at all.. were you pranking us ? :)
ex DJ tamer 1:36:59 PM
ZBC had John Orsi's 7" single and it was played often, especially on some NCP programs in the early 1980s.
PeterC 1:42:49 PM
We played john orsi a lot...
PeterC 1:43:57 PM
I did longer sets this week as well...and dug up some stuff like John Orsi that I hadn't thought about in years...I suppose listen to each other's shows are evoking subliminal memories...
Rav 1:44:08 PM
I haven't done a mic break since March 8. Yow! Ill get chatty come July.
PeterC 1:46:38 PM
@rav...Facebook is a bit scary...Since I've been back doing a show (after 35 years!) you've started showing up on people I might know..
JeffB (host) 1:47:19 PM
@Rav you inspired me to talk a LOT less today.. but good to know I wasn't losing my mind when I never heard your voice
JeffB (host) 1:47:52 PM
oops.. missed a bad word.. i usually edit those out..
Jamie Cohen 1:47:55 PM
having a blast listening to all this old stuff Jeff!
JeffB (host) 1:48:44 PM
Thanks @Jamie! Looking forward to hearing your sonic therapy tonight :)
Jamie Cohen 1:49:01 PM
and, for what it's worth, I usually only tal once an hour. That's how i did it for PR and for NCP back when i did those shows.
-bot 1:54:17 PM
haven't heard Pastiche in a long time.
Jamie Cohen 2:02:47 PM
@Jeff, any Sex Execs, i used to love Im Glad Youre My Ex.
JeffB (host) 2:04:41 PM
@Jamie i remember that, super catchy song ! Don't think I have it.. but very possible it's on the ZBC Bot drive..
PiGuy 2:04:36 PM
Zoom caused me to miss the first hour. Just in time for LCD. Don't think TJ even played any LCD this morning.
JeffB (host) 2:05:33 PM
@PiGuy first hour sucked, 2nd hour.. um..
PiGuy 2:05:21 PM
What about Tami-itis?
JeffB (host) 2:06:55 PM
This LCD song has the same bass line as "Change" by Killing Joke..
PiGuy 2:08:36 PM
Maybe a future show you can do all cassette stuff. Maybe I can track down my Propeller cassette and send it to you. And James Murphy loves to steal bass lines and guitar riffs.
-bot 2:10:11 PM
@piguy, do have a good copy of the propeller cassette? I'd pay for a dub.
PiGuy 2:11:17 PM
Well I think there is a belief that they are all bad...haven't played mine in over 30 years but it's in a cool dry area.
-bot 2:12:51 PM
yeah, I know. I've had two copies and they eventually stared squealing.
JeffB (host) 2:13:00 PM
Cassettes actually can hold up really well.. i found one not labelled, a Maxell LD, played it, was WCCC recorded around 975, sounded like yesterday.
PiGuy 2:13:07 PM
Had a co-worker in the band People in Stores so that's how I got my copy. Saw them on a bill with Burma at the Underground.
-bot 2:13:44 PM
@piguy, I hope it's in good condition. digitized it immediately
PiGuy 2:19:42 PM
Just fished it out...haven't been moved to digitize my cassettes up to this point since 99% of my collection were albums or mix tapes.
Kevin Polk 2:28:54 PM
losing my edge is an epic song and is too close to home :D
PiGuy 2:34:07 PM
Ah the heyday of angry English men...Graham Parker, Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson.
Kevin Polk 2:40:25 PM
PVA makes me think of the Unloved, who do a lot of the Killing Eve soundtrack stuff; in fact, the music is the only reason IMO to watch that almost unbearable show
JeffB (host) 2:43:25 PM
@Kevin yeah ! similar sound..
Theodore D. Wicks 2:44:23 PM
I have a zip file of the propellor cassete: http://www.mediafire.com/file/vgzsprh14cam966/Propeller.zip/file
JeffB (host) 2:44:59 PM
@Theodore THANK YOU !!
-bot 2:45:28 PM
no viruses I hope, LOL
-bot 2:46:33 PM
thx @theodore
Theodore D. Wicks 2:47:27 PM
no, I have played it many times and checked it out, it's fine, the neats song is one of my all time faves, last song ever played at the underground club if I remember correctly, remember that place fondly
JeffB (host) 2:48:32 PM
loved the Underground.
Kevin Polk 2:49:09 PM
boy I have not seen that propeller stuff in a loonnngg time
PiGuy 2:50:03 PM
Amen to Theodore. I think maybe the guy who does the wifullyobscure blog may have posted that over the years with the caveat about the source material. He posts a lot of good things.
PiGuy 2:51:18 PM
Underground, Streets, The Channel...miss them all.
Rav 2:53:28 PM
That was a massive Annette Peacock track. Never heard of her either.
JeffB (host) 2:54:56 PM
thx.. found that in a box of old vinyl while looking for "November Group".. Bill Bruford was the drummer..
Kevin Polk 2:56:36 PM
anybody been to an actual record store lately? planning to go to Central Sq to have a look around this weekend
Rav 2:56:20 PM
Stealing that and Discharge for future Pulsebeat shows.
Theodore D. Wicks 2:56:24 PM
willfully obscure blog has two other propellor artists collections that the links still work, I just dl them
Kevin Polk 2:56:50 PM
Discharge: SEE SEE THROUGH THEIR LIES
Kevin Polk 2:57:05 PM
well that's probably Crucifix but same idea
Kevin Polk 2:58:11 PM
speaking of which Crucifix is essential if you are partial to old Discharge; Dehuminization album is a classic
JeffB (host) 2:59:21 PM
@Rav lots of 7" singles you should hear that I didn't play.. I've had 'em all these years in a box, many never played. Will message you
JeffB (host) 3:00:10 PM
Hey my show's over THANK YOU everyone !!
Kevin Polk 3:00:34 PM
thx jef
Theodore D. Wicks 3:00:35 PM
this is where I got the propellor cassette originally, from Thalia Zedek's website (she put up for anyone to have): Here's a link that was sent to me from Thalia Zedek website. Works very well. Enjoy. https://app.box.com/s/vg5um4lh8dzwop7ojpd2
