Phil Ochs (singing/playing) - I Ain't Marchin' Anymore
Phil Ochs (singing/playing) I Ain't Marchin' Anymore
Single (Elektra), also released on many albums 1966 Soul
Ochs wrote "I Ain't Marching Any More" as American involvement in the Vietnam War was beginning to grow. The song criticizes all of American military history from the perspective of a weary soldier who has been present at every single war since the War of 1812. The chorus notes that "it's always the old who lead us to the war, always the young to fall" and asks whether the price of military victory has been too high. Ochs said of the song that it "borders between pacifism and treason, combining the best qualities of both." He also wrote "the fact that you won't be hearing this song on the radio is more than enough justification for the writing of it."

We apologize for the self-promotion in this lengthy piece, repeating the two men's book and film names over and over while scrimping on actual content. Higdon's forthcoming book is “The Anatomy of Fake News: A Critical News Literacy Education.” The discussion includes a look at the long history of fake news, as well as Higdon’s proposed fake news detection kit and the importance of critical media literacy education. The two are also authors of “United States of Distraction: Media Manipulation in Post-Truth America (and what we can do about it)" and involved in the recent Project Censored documentary, “United States of Distraction: Fighting the Fake News Invasion.”

This classic cut was spun for a mid-show music break. "Civil rights leaders are a pain in the neck; Can't hold a candle to Chang Kai Shek; How do I know? I read it in the Daily News. Ban the bombers are afraid of a fight; Peace hurts business and that ain't right; How do I know? I read it in the Daily News. Daily News, daily blues; Pick up a copy any time you choose. Seven little pennies in the newsboy's hand; And you ride right along to never, never land. ..."

It's a difficult time for Palestinians, but under occupation, it's always a difficult time for Palestinians. That is why we continue to marvel at the resiliency and passion for their land that seems to buoy them to continue their resistance against great odds. We certainly see that in Amer Zahr, our presenter this week, who gives voice to that resiliency and resistance.

TJR Producer Stan Robinson (reading) Parallels Between Black and Palestinian Struggles
Article 5-29-2019 by Dr. Johnny E. Williams posted at https://blackagendareport.com/parallels-between-black-and-palestinian-struggles 2019
This article is old but clearly not outdated. Professor Williams teaches Sociology at Trinity College. He writes, "My recent visit to Palestine clarified how Palestinian and black oppression is an integral part of an integrated global politico-economic structure of white racism that shares similar subjugating techniques such as criminalization, extrajudicial killings, and mass imprisonment. Black folks and Palestinians are struggling against the same systems of “interlocking oppression” in what sociologist Patricia Hill Collins terms the 'matrix of domination.'" ...
