Phil Ochs (singing/playing) - I Ain't Marchin' Anymore
Phil Ochs (singing/playing) I Ain't Marchin' Anymore
Single (Elektra), also released on many albums 1966 Soul
Ochs wrote "I Ain't Marching Any More" as American involvement in the Vietnam War was beginning to grow. The song criticizes all of American military history from the perspective of a weary soldier who has been present at every single war since the War of 1812. The chorus notes that "it's always the old who lead us to the war, always the young to fall" and asks whether the price of military victory has been too high. Ochs said of the song that it "borders between pacifism and treason, combining the best qualities of both." He also wrote "the fact that you won't be hearing this song on the radio is more than enough justification for the writing of it."

Counterspin (regular weekly feature of TJR) Available at FAIR's website fair.org/counterspin 2020
Some corporate media appear agog that militarized federal agentsā€”deployed with a mission reflected in Defense Secretary Mark Esperā€™s comment that city streets are a ā€œbattlespace,ā€ filled with what acting Homeland Security chief Chad Wolf called ā€œviolent mobsā€ā€”would go ahead and tear gas protesters in Portland, Oregon, even though Portlandā€™s Democratic mayor, Tom Wheeler, was among them. Outrageous, sure, but weā€™re a bit beyond outrage now, arenā€™t we? Our guest is Marjorie Cohn, past president of the National Lawyers Guild, and much more.

TUC Radio (one of TJR's treasured sources) Available at TUC's website tucradio.org 2020
On July second, 2020, the economist and former Finance Minister of Greece, Yanis Varoufakis, gave a webinar on how the current collapse of the world economy might change capitalism forever by challenging the survival of private banking and the functioning of the stock exchange. Varoufakisā€™ thesis reminded me of a headline in the Sept. 2019 New Yorker from Bill McKibbens divestment campaign. It said: Money Is the Oxygen on Which the Fire of Global Warming Burns. What would it be like to abandon not just a particular investment by a bank but the whole banking system?

Download this list for yourself at the URL shown above. In one united, shameful voice, corporate media dismiss or condemn this list and its makers at the United Nations. Google searches are optimized to return the condemnations but make it hard to access the original source. Note also: this list does not include all targets on JVP's BDS list. That's because some of them, for example HP and Caterpillar, do their dirt throughout Palestine but not in or from settlements.

Josh Ruebner, who currently teaches at Georgetown University, for many years worked in the trenches of Washington, DC lobbying Congress on behalf of the Palestinian People for The US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, a national coalition of hundreds of groups working to advocate for Palestinian rights and a shift in US policy. Given this Congress, can you imagine a more difficult mission? He is also author of Shattered Hopes: Obama's Failure to Broker Israeli-Palestinian Peace (Verso, 2013) and Israel: Democracy or Apartheid State? (Olive Branch Press, 2018). This week we hear Ruebner in conversation with Michael Spath of the Indiana Center for Peace in the Middle East.

There were three presenters at this very special webinar. Two spoke in English, one in Japanese, untranslated. Alperowitz was keynote. He wrote the definitive book on the cynically constructed, outrageous, myth that bombing and eviscerating Hiroshima's population was "necessary" to "save Americans' lives" and to achieve the end of WW2. Alperowitz was near the center of power at that time, so he knows the real story and shares it with us.

Human Rights Watch is involved in this scandalous attempt, quickly endorsed by Congress, to drive Assad out of office. It's based on 5000 questionable photos, presented by an anonymous underground agent with code name "Caesar," supposedly implicating Assad in mass torture of his own people.
