I played M-train last week....I am not missing the vinyl era..

Vinyl is good! That Slits 45 I opened the show with - I can't find that digitally - all the versions available are completely different and watered down.

@Pat here's the secret: if you wanna listen to a file on the archive, right click on the file and try to "copy link address". Paste it into a new tab in your browser, change the .m3u at the end to .mp3. Then you can play directly, download.

@jeff...yeah that is true..the early digital remasterings pretty much sucked..But digital doesn't skip

I got the Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge pre mounted on a headshell. Can swap back with the old Stanton I was using in 5 seconds, handy for really crusty old records I'm worried might shred the Ortofon.. I still have 78RPM discs the Stanton's more suited for..

I particularly like that Kingdom of the HS song

Didn't Luxuria open for the Fall at the Channel in '88?

I'm using a Technics SP10 that was discarded from another radio station. We used to have these at the Z too.

i don't pass the TT snob test, just an Audio Technica AT-LP120XUSB

sorry but have to tell this story 1 last time; for an encore, Luxuria started into The Light Pours out of Me (Magazine); Noko couldn't get the opening riff right, tried it like 5 times while the band waited; finally he got it and they kicked into the song; serendipity

talk about a build up

this was during the Fall's Brix years, so if you like that (I did) they were great; still most of the original band at that point

The Channel was my favourite Boston venure. Saw soooo many good shows there

Yeah, the Channel – lost my shoes at a Butthole Surfers show there once. Had to stay afterward and look for them amongst the post-show detritus.

Channel had a great mix for hardcore shows and "normal" alternative shows, plus other genres too

I only saw the Fall at the Paradise. Figures the venue that survived is the one with giant pillars blocking your view.

Ive stood behind that same post for 40+ years!!!

the first show I saw at the Channel was Black Flag, after the finally kicked off their record label troubles and went back on the road

funny, we probably all stood next to each other at the time but no idea who each other are (at least some of us)

The channel was my favorite place...I never paid to get in, and I never paid for a drink there ever...My friend Patty booked it for a while and my friend Lisa did all the promo artwork..I'm still in touch with them..

@JeffB – I was waiting for the Stanton/Ortofon swap out and didn't get to listen closely. Will have to check it out on the archive with the headphones.

I found Mark to be nice. One night he was sick of giving interviews at the Rat and introduced me as a member of the fall and had me do the interview for some fanzine..They said they didn't see me on stage and mark piped up the I was shy and stood in the back!!

@Simon I listened off the air and heard no difference. Then listened off the stream to take advantage of the delay - the kick drum sounded different.

@Kevin, playing from a 45 RPM 12" - the Ortofon didn't handle the intro well, the Stanton actually sounded a lot better. So I used both and edited together after..

I have to say I was never skilled enough to change cartridges i the middle of a song!!!!

@PeterC lol It is quite sad how substances ravaged MES as time went on. His last 10 years did not seem very happy

MES = one of those people that you hoped would somehow turn it around but it eventually became clear he was way too far down he road he was travelling
