Counterspin (regular weekly feature of TJR) Available at FAIR's website fair.org/counterspin 2020
This week is one for the books, as a grand jury refused to charge any of the police officers responsible for killing Breonna Taylor with her murder, the president said he would not commit to a peaceful transition of power should he lose the election, and states continued plans to reopen, even as cases of Covid-19 are starting back up again. The news often feels overwhelming. And overwhelm doesn’t generally encourage action. News media may not control what happens in the world, but the way they show it to us has a real impact on how we feel about it, and on what we think we can do about it. Laura Flanders, the original host of CounterSpin and the former director of the Women’s Desk at FAIR, practices a kind of journalism that’s meant to encourage engagement, not just in the stories it tells, but in the people who listen to them.

Israel is spending millions of dollars to squash Campus organizing along with educational programs that challenge the fraudulent Israeli narrative. The fact that the Lobby already has the US government in its pocket is not exactly news. Now it's aiming at the Academy. Criticism of Israel is labeled anti-Semitic, and that trope triggers a reflexive response to once again make Israel the victim rather than the aggressor. This week we examine the work of the Palestinian grassroots uprising which is challenging Israel's outrageous military occupation. We feature a recording of a webinar sponsored by The Foundation for Middle East Peace with its director, Lara Friedman, and its non resident Fellow, Peter Beinart, discussing campus censorship with Dimi Khalidi of Palestine Legal.

Donald Trump Keeps Saying He Won’t Accept the Election Result. Are People Finally Starting to Listen? TUC Radio (longtime treasured source for TJR) Available at TUC's website tucradio.org 2020
These two segments from Vandana Shiva’s work are meant to inspire a new kind of thinking about food and soil at a time when coming home to basics might bring comfort and inspiration. This is the conclusion of a masterclass on this theme taught by Vandana Shiva to students at the University of British Columbia on August 17, 2020. This program also includes a rare bonus-track of a TUC Radio recording of Shiva’s keynote at the Fast Food World conference at UC Berkeley on November 24, 2003. In the last 30 years Vandana Shiva has campaigned against genetic engineering, biotechnology, chemical industrial agriculture, patenting of life and the global rule of the World Trade Organization.
