Welcome to Low End Theory. If I were to describe the aesthetics of Low End Theory as a musical territory or space, its borders would be provided by doom/stoner/psych metal on one side, contemporary prog and prog metal on another, experimental/electronic/folk on a third, and enclosed finally by the long arc of classic and contemporary post-punk that bends towards dub. The mission of this radio show is to conjure a farrago of heavy sonic fictions of sound, words, and music appropriate and fitting to the heaviness of the times. But fear not, this Low End Theory is not dour or depressing; on the contrary, we seek out the joyful and ecstatic in the acoustic depths of the low end’s vibrating, pulsing heart. And who among us does not need some joy anchored in the deep sonority of the low end, especially now?

Last week was a repeat. Although the second hour was something that was mixcloud only about a year ago

Well, it was new to me and had me buzzing along the 401 in exquisite resonance with the traffic

Thank you, Jamie. I recorded it back in May but this is the first time it has been aired

It has now been 535 days since there was live indoor music concert in Toronto

And the province does not appear to be any rush to relax the restriction

a year and a half is such a long time without live music.

Since March 2020, over 20 music clubs in Ontario have closed their doors permanently

THAT sucks

It is a catastrophe for the music industry here

There is a provincial election scheduled for June 2020 and the provincial government is terrified of fourth wave of COVID

Unlike other provinces such, we have pretty much avoided a serious Delta wave

It looks ike it my be starting to peak here. I think its gonna be a long winter tho.

Also, we have a Conservative government that does not count the arts among its base of voters or financial suppoters

So they could give a shit

I played this a fair bit in the early summer. Definitely one of the more interesting albums of 2021

we have vaccination and mask mandates for indoor dining an other indoor gatherings, but the province has not extended this to indoor music venues
