Elite media are interested in abortion as an issue, but it is not understood as a human right but rather as a partisan football. Meanwhile, Corporate news media want you to be alarmed about an “extraordinary breach” of privacy. It’s the privacy of the institution of the Supreme Court which, one CBS expert told viewers, had been dealt a “body blow” by the leak of a ruling overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade decision... Also on the show: In corporate media–land, it’s controversial that people be allowed to determine whether they give birth, because, after all, we care so much about the birthed. It sounds sarcastic, but that’s the underlying premise of coverage of the shortage of baby formula ...

Host Alex Smith (interviewing Dr. Blanche Verlie) Learning to Live with Climate Change: From Anxiety to Transformation
Radio Ecoshock (a valued TJR source) Available at RE's website ecoshock.org 2022
Climate educator Blanche Verlie draws on feminist, more-than-human and affect theories to argue that people in high-carbon societies need to learn to ‘live-with’ climate change: to appreciate that human lives are interconnected with the climate, and to cultivate the emotional capacities needed to respond to the climate crisis. Her book, Learning to Live with Climate Change, explores the cultural, interpersonal and sociological dimensions of ecological distress. The book engages with Australia’s 2019/2020 ‘Black Summer’ of bushfires and smoke, undergraduate students’ experiences of climate change, and contemporary activist movements such as the youth strikes for climate. Verlie outlines how we can collectively attune to, live with, and respond to the unsettling realities of climate collapse while counteracting domineering ideals of ‘climate control.’

The Pulitzer Prize winning author and civil rights icon, Alice Walker, of all people, has come under attack from the Zionist Lobby for being antisemitic because of her outspoken defense of the Palestinian People as they face Israeli Military occupation. This, of course, is the modus operandi of the Israeli Hasbara. To them, any criticism of Israel is per se antisemitic. But Alice Walker? How desperate do you have to be to attack a human rights warrior of such distinction? ... Today we feature a forum put together by a remarkable group that goes by the name "Stand with Alice Walker." It consists of her longtime friend Jeff Mackler, Palestinian author Susan Abulhawa, the intrepid US journalist Chris Hedges, and Alice Walker herself.

Host David Swanson Greta Zarrow on #NoWar2022
Talk World Radio (longtime treasured source for TJR; formerly "Talk Nation Radio") Available at TWR's website talkworldradio.org 2022
Zarro is organizing director of World Beyond War, which David heads. She talks about the upcoming #NoWar2022 conference July 8-10 of 2022. WBW has been sponsoring such conferences several years now. They "went virtual," gaining one of the few real benefits of the COVID pandemic. #NoWar2022 will facilitate international solidarity by bringing together speakers and attendees from around the world. As we resist the institution of war worldwide, from crippling sanctions and military occupations to the network of military bases that encircle the globe, how can we simultaneously “regenerate,” building the alternative world that we want to see based on nonviolence and a culture of peace? #NoWar2022 will highlight stories of change-making, big and small, around the world, that challenge the structural causes of war & militarism while at the same time, concretely creating an alternative system based on a just and sustainable peace. In the 1940s, the pesticide DDT exploded in popularity. Ignoring warnings that it might poison the environment and endanger human health, corporations and governments sprayed the chemical for decades—until countries finally began outlawing its use, for precisely those reasons. On episode 47 of The Politics of Everything, hosts Laura Marsh and Alex Pareene talk with Elena Conis, the author of How to Sell a Poison: The Rise, Fall, and Toxic Return of DDT. They explore how corporations dismissed the dangers of DDT to protect profits, how pioneering environmentalists like Rachel Carson fought back, and why harmful chemicals may cause problems long after their usage has ceased.
