Why didn’t we see this coming? We were blindsided by: in this case, a John Roberts–led Supreme Court gutting multiple legally and societally established precedents. Clarence Thomas is an obvious factor in today’s Court, as is Samuel Alito—but the man ABC News characterized as a “mensch” is at the center of the web. ... Also on the show: Former NYT reporter James Risen wrote an op-ed for the paper in 2020, in which he said that he thought that governments—he was talking about Bolsonaro in Brazil, as well as Donald Trump—were testing unprecedented measures to silence and intimidate journalists, and that they “seem to have decided to experiment with such draconian anti-press tactics by trying them out first on aggressive and disagreeable figures.” ...

The recent Supreme Court decision which eviscerated Roe v. Wade brought the issues of privacy into bold relief. The right to privacy is not only central to landmark legal cases like Roe, Griswold, Loving, and Obergefell, but it impacts how we all live our lives. Our guest on this week’s WhoWhatWhy podcast, Amy Gajda, is one of the country’s top legal experts on privacy. She is a professor at Tulane Law School, a former journalist, and the author of Seek and Hide: The Tangled History of the Right to Privacy. Gajda talks about how privacy has been enshrined in some of our laws and its connection to the Constitution — which never actually mentions the word “privacy.” Even though we live in a world of social media, personal data dumps, and endless information, she explains why privacy is still relevant. She connects its impact on the press with its larger public policy implications, including the role privacy played in the 2016 Gawker case. ...

This represents a climbdown (in plain English: "betrayal") for the Biden administration, which came to power in 2021 on election slogans which had seen Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, being labeled a “murderer” and Saudi Arabia itself a “pariah state” by candidate Joe Biden. Meanwhile, he continues to snub Venezuela's offer to provide all the oil that's needed. (A feature of this article is its large colorful photo of a dumb-looking Juan Guaidó standing next to Trump, who sports a big evil smile.)

Stan (reading/commenting) A Vatican Archbishop and Diplomat Tells It Like It Is
Article by Robert Malone in the July 7 edition of OCA's online journal, Organic Bytes Available at OCA's website organicconsumers.org 2022
"...we are governed by a high command of usurers and speculators, from Bill Gates who invests in large farms right on the eve of the food emergency or in vaccines just before the outbreak of the pandemic, to George Soros, who speculates on the fluctuations of currencies and government bonds and along with Hunter Biden finances a bio-laboratory in Ukraine. To think that there is no relationship between the instigators of these crimes and those who carry them out at the highest levels of national governments, the EU, and the UN is a sign of bad faith, because even a child could understand that we are held hostage by a group of technocrats who are ideologically deviant and morally corrupt. ..."

After many years of endeavors to get access to justice, Palestinian civil society and victims welcomed the UN ICC Prosecutor’s announcement that there was sufficient evidence proving the commission of war crimes in the territory of Palestine. However, seven years since the beginning of the preliminary investigation and more than a year after the opening of a supposedly full-fledged investigation, no concrete steps have been taken by the Court to put an end to the ‘impunity crisis’ in the Israeli-Palestinian setting. While the ICC has recently proved that it is capable of a prompt reaction over serious and urgent situations, the Prosecutor’s seeming reluctance to select cases in the Palestine situation gives rise to a serious concern about a practice of double standards.

The Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space Available at GN's website space4peace.org 2022
Scott Ritter is a former United States Marine Corps intelligence officer. He also served with the United Nations implementing arms control treaties Scott answers questions on why the US is moving away from ‘Arms control’ – particularly with Russia and China; why the US pulled out of the ABM Treaty; the INF Treaty; whether the ‘Aegis Ashore’ missile defense systems in Romania and Poland like a Cuban missile crisis in reverse for Russia? (There seems to be no discussion of the legitimacy of unilaterally "pulling out" from a treaty. What meaning does a treaty have if any party can simply "pull out"?

Tamara Lorincz in a July 1, 2022, conversation with Bruce Gagnon from space4peace There is a marked difference between the peace movements in Canada and the US. Canadian Voice of Women for Peace, and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Canada, are campaigning for an end to the War in Ukraine, and for an end to weapons shipments. They also demand that Canada withdraw from NATO. Coinciding with the NATO summit in Madrid, at the end of June 2022, there were more than a dozen protests against NATO held from coast-to-coast in Canada.
