In what is being reported as an “abrupt” or “surprise” development, Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, whose shtick relies heavily on legislative roadblocking, has agreed to sign on to a package that includes some $369 billion for “climate and energy proposals.” The New York Times reports that the deal represents “the most ambitious climate action ever taken by Congress”—a statement that cries out for context. ...

TUC Radio (one of TJR's courageous sources) Available at TUC's website tucradio.org 2022
How the rules of the GATT, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, were re-written and how, in 1995, the GATT became the WTO. The World Trade Organization enforces the rules of globalized trade and is the most powerful organization that hardly anybody heard of – to this day. The WTO can override a member country’s governments, laws and regulations if they are deemed a barrier to trade. Against the background of the war in Ukraine, the collapse of the climate and todays extraordinary power of corporations, some business consultants are now warning that we are heading into an era of “de-globalization” with guaranteed disorder and scarcity. They say that global trade relations are coming apart, supply lines collapse and the war in Ukraine affects the world. So it is time to visit again the rules of global trade.

Today we take another look at the fallout from the recent reports by international human rights organizations which have issued concurring exhaustive reports documenting that Israel indeed meets the protocols of apartheid under international law. The United States Congress and the White House have condemned the reports by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and B’Tselem without commentary as to why…without any critical analysis of the actual reports, but by putting down the reports with the usual name calling of anti-semitism.

This week on Talk World Radio we’re talking about Iran. We focus on the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Even though this agreement was exhaustively negotiated, approved, and had the force of law, Trump didn't like it so he simply reneged. So, where do we go from here? Our guest, Negar Mortazavi is an Iranian-American journalist and political analyst and host of the Iran Podcast based in Washington DC, who has been covering Iranian affairs and U.S. foreign policy towards the Middle East for over a decade.

The FBI arrested James W. Clark of Falmouth, Massachusetts, on Friday for allegedly threatening to explode a bomb in the “personal space” of Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs if the Democrat did not resign in the weeks after the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol, according to NBC Boston. According to the indictment against him, Clark researched “how to kill” Hobbs in February 2021. The 38-year-old also allegedly searched online “fema Boston marathon bombing” and “fema Boston marathon bombing plan digital army” before sending Arizona’s Elections Division a felony threat through their online contact form. “Your attorney general needs to resign by Tuesday, February 16th by 9 a.m. or the explosive device impacted in her personal space will be detonated,” Clark wrote, according to prosecutors. ...

The Rev. Steven Marsh never thought he would see the day his church in Laguna Woods, California — a town of 16,500 populated largely by retirees — would be spending $20,000 a month for security. Then a gunman opened fire on May 15 during a luncheon at Geneva Presbyterian Church, where Marsh is senior pastor, killing one and injuring five other members of a Taiwanese congregation that met there. Officials said the man, who was motivated by political hatred against Taiwan, chained the church’s doors shut and hid firebombs inside before shooting at the gathering of elderly church members. ...
