Not even close to being Celtic any way shape or form but I like the variations.

Yeah- many of my tunes are varying takes on a particular genre. I liked the idea of indie/rock performed in Gaelic

Not truly Celtic but every time I've seen Camera Obscura I always thought that they would be a good Scottish bar band.

Hmm. I don't know if I have heard them before. I'll have to give them a listen some time.

I enjoy doing "varying takes" or "influences" on a genre as my theme for that reason. I find it fun to fall down the genre-blurring rabbit hole.

They are Glaswegians and a lot of fun. Any band that tours with an accordion is OK by me.

What do you recommend as the best place in their discography to start?

2005's "Let's get out of this country" is their best and most successful but the earlier releases have some good songs as well. They have an answer song to Lloyd Cole's "Are you ready to be heartbroken" that got a lot of airplay on college radio and has held up real well.

FWIW, the Decemberists are very celtic influenced in their early career and they do tour with an accordion. But the song worth hearing is The Tain, a 18 minute long epic about what is callled the Irish Iliad. Can be heard here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i44Gc6N80mc

Hello Barry! Thanks for tuning in! That is truly the biggest reason behind my show- giving the platform to genres that get overlooked (despite being AMAZING), so I am glad you say that.

While I know not every week's is going to appeal to everyone, I love being introduced to genres I would not have thought to explore before.

If there is ever a death metal show, I'll just skip that one.

Haha, and that is completely okay! I appreciate that everyone has their own taste (I know I certainly do) I just hope to get to share my love of exploring different influences/genres with anyone who will listen :)
