| Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (New York City) Weekly edition posted 10-18-2019: Khury Petersen-Smith on Turkey & the Kurds, Alex Vitale on the Purpose of Policing Counterspin (regular weekly feature of TJR) Available at FAIR's website fair.org/counterspin 2019 World events can be confusing, but they’re made much more so by media coverage that insists, against all evidence, that righteousness is what guides US foreign policy. Also: The Fort Worth cop who killed Atatiana Jefferson has been arrested (and released on bond) and fired (after he resigned). As with the murder of Botham Jean in his home by a Dallas cop, Jefferson’s killing is spurring handwringing over “corruption” of law enforcement, a turning against its "original purpose" of community protection and service. Vitale pierces the latter myth.

| Host Alex Wise interviewing Christian Poirier of Amazon Watch Amazon Rainforest Update: Already 17% destroyed, much more to fear Sea Change Radio, San Francisco nationally syndicated weekly radio show and podcast covering the shift to social, environmental, and economic sustainability Available at SCh's website cchange.net 2019 With fires and deforestation in the Amazon rainforest out of control, the situation could get even worse before we see any significant improvement. While some steps to control the fires have been made recently by the Brazilian government, rampant deforestation continues unabated. Poirier gives us a closer glimpse into the agribusiness giants that are involved in the devastation, what his organization is doing to help stop it, and tells listeners what they can do to get involved in the struggle. Then, we take a peek into our archives to hear Kevin Walker explain industrialization's disastrous "grand food bargain."

| Host Maria Gilardin presenting Linda Doyle Extinction Rebellion: How to Repair Democracy TUC Radio (one of TJR's treasured sources) Available at TUC's website tucradio.org 2019 Extinction Rebellion’s huge outdoor assemblies and performances, road and bridge closures, their acts of non-violent civil resistance and disobedience and willingness to be arrested are meant to compel governments to finally act to end the use of fossil fuel by 2025 to prevent the collapse of the world’s ecosystems. Linda Doyle, a member of XR UK's national citizens' assembly working group, describes why citizens' assemblies are essential to giving the UK public the opportunity to respond and getting the radical change we need to address the climate and ecological emergency.

| Host John Roberts Dr. Suheir Daoud on the Resistance among Palestinian Women Citizens of Israel This Week In Palestine (award-winning exclusive weekly feature on TJR) For a description or download of this or any week's edition of T.W.I.P., go to TJR's website truthandjusticeradio.org 2019 As Daoud points out, there has been little or no discussion of the impact of Israel's repression on Palestinian women, including those like herself who are citizens of Israel. In this talk at the Palestine Center in Washington DC, she discusses Palestinian women's forced role change from mothering to working -- for Jewish Israelis or their businesses. She discusses the resistance led by women during different phases since Israel’s inception. She also mentions her recent research on women in the Islamic movement and the challenges they face from within the Palestinian society and from the implications of Israel's recently imposed, draconian, "nation state law."

| Host Mike Gaworecki interviewing biologist Diva Amon Exploring the deep sea: what we do and don’t know about biodiversity at the bottom of the ocean The Mongabay Newscast (recent addition to TJR's growing treasury of resources) Available at Mongabay's podcast page mongabay.com/podcast 2019 Plans to mine the ocean floor are moving forward around the world, especially around hydrothermal vents at the bottom of the sea that create deposits of valuable metals. But given the fact that humans have explored less than 1 percent of the deep sea, it’s fair to say that we really have no idea what’s at risk.
Amon is here to talk about the findings of a recent study she co-authored about biodiversity and research effort at deep sea vents, what got her into studying the bottom of the ocean in the first place, and two of her favorite deep sea creatures: the Dumbo octopus and the headless chicken monster.

| Host David Swanson Jeffrey Sterling, CIA Whistleblower, on What He Now Thinks Was the Purpose of Operation Merlin Talk Nation Radio (one of TJR's treasured sources) Available at TNR's website talknationradio.org 2019 Jeffrey Sterling is a former CIA case officer who was convicted of violating the Espionage Act and was in federal prison in Colorado. Prior to this program, as far as we know, Sterling had not been asked whether he believes the stated purpose of the program he worked on. Does he really think the purpose of giving obviously flawed nuclear bomb-part plans to Iran was to slow down a nuclear weapons program that may not even have existed? Or does he believe the purpose was to plant evidence on the government of Iran? Listen to his answer.

| Host Bob Funke (reading) Excerpts from articles in The Nation on Congress's Impeachment Inquiry The Nation article 9-25-2019 by Jeet Heer, posted at thenation.com/article/impeachment-trump-ukraine/ 2019 "Though Donald Trump has committed many crimes, best keep the focus tightly on the Ukrainian scandal." That's to avoid senatorial opposition, lengthy court battles, etc. etc. Meanwhile, the same author changed his mind, writing 10-18-2019 that "A narrow and quick impeachment is no longer sufficient for a White House that flaunts its crimes."
