The Musical Hybrid is a weekly experiment in music appreciation. I search for and play music that defies genre, especially music with symphonic and orchestral elements. Thus, the show spans decades of music and encompasses an extraordinary range of sounds. Many artists I feature are multi-instrumentalists, musicians who can express themselves through voice, strings, woodwinds, guitar, electronic instruments, and more. To me, genre can be a limiting factor in how we understand and classify music. What the music sounds like is important, but it is just as important to listen with an open mind and heart to see that there are common threads between the bold and brilliant themes of these hybrid sounds—all produced by different breeds of art and science.
