10:04 PM		Boris Huge Amplifier Worship Third Man Records LLC 2020 Originally released in 1998, Amplifier Worship is the second studio LP from the Japanese rock band known for combining elements of metal, sludge, noise, and more into its sound. Last week, Boris announced a second-half 2024 North American tour where they will play Amplifier Worship in its entirety. Scheduled stop includes Tucson on November 2nd at 191 Toole!
10:13 PM		Melvins Boris Bullhead Boner 1991 Third studio LP from the sludge metal legends. Japanese noise-rock band Boris takes its name from this cut, the album's opener. King Buzzo of the Melvins, along with Tervor Dunn of Mr. Bungle, will be rolling through Tucson on September 25th at 191 Toole!
10:24 PM		Cherubs Cumulo Nimbus 2 Ynfynyty Brutal Panda Records 2015 Following a two decade hiatus, Texan noise rockers Cherubs returned with a new album in 2015, picking up where they left off. Cherubs is wrapping up a Mid-West and East Coast tour with Unwound.
10:31 PM		Cloakroom Lost Meaning Dissolution Wave Relapse Records 2022 Third studio LP from this self-described "stoner emo" band. The band describes this album as "a concept - a space western in which an act of theoretical physics—the dissolution wave—wipes out all of humanity’s existing art and abstract thought. In order to keep the world spinning on its axis, songsmiths must fill the ether with their compositions."
10:35 PM		My Bloody Valentine only tomorrow m b v Domino Recording Co 2013 Like Cherubs, My Bloody Valentine reunited after an over two decade hiatus. The shoegaze legends released their third studio LP in 2013, though Kevin Shields had been working on initial compositions that would make up most of this release since 2006. Much mellower sound than previous recordings.
10:44 PM		Ride Midnight Rider N Interplay Wichita Recordings 2024 Latest release from this English shoegaze band active since 1988. Ride will be performing in Tucson toward the end of the year at 191 Toole!
10:49 PM		The Chameleons Second Skin Script of the Bridge (Remastered) Blue Apple Music 2012 1983 debut LP from this English post-punk band. At the time of their formation, critics labeled the band as Goth rock, with the band pushing back against the classification and claiming their sound was firmly post-punk. A newly reunited Chameleons will be performing the entirely of their third 1986 studio album Strange Times at 191 Toole on June 19th!
10:55 PM		Wire Silk Skin Paws A Bell Is a Cup Until It Is Struck Mute, a BMG Company 1988 Opening cut to Wire's fifth studio album.
11:02 PM		The Psychedelic Furs All of This and Nothing Talk Talk Talk Columbia 2002 Second studio album from the English band, first released in 1981. The album included the song "Pretty In Pink" from which the 1986 teen rom-com took its name. The Psychedelic Furs will be playing at the Rialto this Monday with John Doe and Exene Cervenka (both of X fame) opening!
11:09 PM		Iggy Pop China Girl The Idiot Virgin Records 1977 Penned in 1976 by Iggy Pop and David Bowie for inclusion on Iggy Pop's debut solo album. David Bowie would later re-record his version in 1983 for his album Let's Dance. Niles Rodgers of Chic fame co-produced the track and added his signature sound.

11:17 PM		Bronze New Mexico Absolute Compliance Castle Face 2022 Fifth studio LP from this San Francisco-based experimental band, drawing from decades-earlier area peers such as Tuxedomoon and Chrome.
11:25 PM		Cabaret Voltaire Just Fascination The Crackdown Mute 2013 1983 release from this experimental, industrial, post-punk (INSERT LABEL HERE) trio. The punk rockers loved them!
11:31 PM		Bleak Monday Flies N Flies - EP Artistfy Music 2024 Latest EP from this self-described synthwave industrial German three-piece.
11:36 PM		HEALTH CHILDREN OF SORROW (featuring Willie Adler) RAT WARS Loma Vista/Concord 2023 Late 2023 release from this experimental Los Angeles band. The label statement describes the newest HEALTH release in this way: "On RAT WARS, HEALTH, are not only making the heaviest, most genre-obliterating music of their career, they’re documenting just how insane it feels to be alive right now. It’s The Downward Spiral for people with at least two monitors and a vitamin D deficiency. “RATWARS” is a definitive statement on the insanity and the insipidness of contemporary life."

Hmmmm...did critics really label The Chameleons as Goth Rock at the time? I know that at the time, they sounded a lot like U2. I just don't remember anyone at the time using terms like "goth rock", Julio?

DiS: You were always very difficult to pigeonhole which is perhaps one of the reasons your music hasn't dated. It's interesting reading some of the descriptions given to The Chameleons; first wave goths, post-punk and prototype shoegaze being three that spring to mind. Mark Burgess: We never fitted in. And as for being called goths. A lot of our songs people associate with that scene such as 'Second Skin', goth didn't even exist when that song came out. Goth did not exist. You had the Banshees

The first two releases from the Psychedelic Furs are my favorite. Saw them in San Francisco on the Talk Talk Talk tour in 1981.

Good to hear Bronze...had never heard them before. Tuxedomoon was a HUGE influence, and I did see them live, in San Francisco, in late 1980.
