This Large Plants tune is great!
ricklistens 4:10:23 PM
and this Neanderthal rock is a great follow up
JeffB 4:11:32 PM
Neanderthal Rock proves as a species they were far more advanced than their progeny
Kevin Polk 4:12:13 PM
Never heard of Neanderthal Rock. And of course discogs.com is not responding right now. Is this a new or old band?
Kevin Polk 4:12:34 PM
I mean Penza Penza
JeffB 4:13:13 PM
Only recently discovered. Archaeologists till doing the labwork
ricklistens 4:13:59 PM
from Estonia
ricklistens 4:15:52 PM
new
Krista (host) 4:15:53 PM
Loving this detective work. The neanderthals knew how to jam that's for sure!
Kevin Polk 4:17:39 PM
You'd expect them to know about rock.
Kevin Polk 4:17:44 PM
thank you
ricklistens 4:18:48 PM
rock followed by poly styrene
Kevin Polk 4:19:34 PM
Ms. X-Ray Spex herself. Anybody watched the documentary about here that came out recently? Have not watched it yet.
Krista (host) 4:19:53 PM
I chuckled at the rock quip Kevin
Krista (host) 4:20:03 PM
No I haven't, what's it called?
Kevin Polk 4:20:18 PM
That's charitable of you (to chuckle at that one).
Kevin Polk 4:20:50 PM
Movie title is "Poly Styrene: I'm a Cliche"
Kevin Polk 4:21:06 PM
I'm a Cliche is an old X-Ray Spex song.
Krista (host) 4:23:54 PM
Awesome, I'll check that out! I do like artist/band documentaries, cool to see the context
Kevin Polk 4:25:59 PM
Another recent doc, in a similar vein, is "Here to be Heard: The Story of The Slits" If you're partial to music from the late 70's - early 80's scene.
Krista (host) 4:30:25 PM
Actually don't think I've listened to their stuff, I'll check em out. Thanks!
Kevin Polk 4:32:17 PM
My suggestion, start with The Slits version of Heard it Through the Grapevine. That's classic. They can be intentionally difficult but they are one of the great bands of that era.
Krista (host) 4:36:01 PM
Added to my list :)
charles grinnell 4:45:20 PM
Great show!
JeffB 4:45:56 PM
Slits "Palmolive" now lives an active life on Cape Cod. Krista you def have to check out Slits, classic ZBC music. I particularly like their collaboration with the Pop Group.. the song is "In the Beginning There Was Rhythm". Other than that their first album on Island records "Cut" is really definitive. Side note: I've heard the Slits version of "I've Heard It Through the Grapevine" many times eating at Chipotle..
JeffB 4:47:20 PM
Actually looks like "Cut" has been re-worked and re-released in 2023.. https://www.discogs.com/release/26846450-The-Slits-Uncut
ricklistens 4:48:28 PM
another Estonian project ...pony road
Krista (host) 4:49:33 PM
Awesome thanks Jeff! Maybe I've heard it too then, I'll put it on after my show and see
Krista (host) 4:50:13 PM
Guess I'm a big fan of the Estonians today (they are pretty cool)
ricklistens 4:50:43 PM
sounds like a pretty country
Kevin Polk 4:51:40 PM
If you do find yourself liking The Slits, you might also get around to The Raincoats, Au Pairs, The Modettes, Kleenex. Cut from similar cloth.
Krista (host) 4:52:08 PM
I've been lucky to visit Tallinn. Very beautiful over there!
Krista (host) 4:52:38 PM
And my list expands... the Raincoats I'm a bit familiar with but not the others, thank you again
Kevin Polk 4:53:12 PM
Krista, you need to cut a deal with Apple so you can embed a button in your playlists to just buy everything with one click. It would save me some time :D
JeffB 4:54:22 PM
this Rose City Band song is hypnotic. I'm trying to get work done here. Not helping
ricklistens 4:55:43 PM
thanks for putting it out there....nice show
Krista (host) 4:56:24 PM
I really should!! Not sure if I've shared already (and it's on Spotify, not Apple) but I do throw all my shows into one big mega playlist: https://spotify.link/jlHmJGTSEDb
Krista (host) 4:56:56 PM
It is a hypnotic song..just recently learned he is from Wooden Shjips AND Moon Duo and it makes a lot of sense
Kevin Polk 4:57:30 PM
He (Ripley) also does a monthly show on NTS London, internet radio thing.
Kevin Polk 4:57:58 PM
https://www.nts.live/shows/moon-duo
Krista (host) 4:58:26 PM
Woah no way
Krista (host) 4:58:38 PM
That's awesome
Kevin Polk 4:58:39 PM
Wooden Shjips has really slowed down the output of late. Hope they are not done. Rose City Band seems to be his most active project by far.
Kevin Polk 4:59:36 PM
Also while I'm babbling away, Jason from Magic Castles says their next album is due out in Spring 2024. So, ah, maybe for your May 1 show, you can drop in a new track from MC... lol
Krista (host) 5:00:11 PM
Absolutely
JeffB 5:00:11 PM
SLITS !?
JeffB 5:00:16 PM
NOW?
Krista (host) 5:00:18 PM
Thank you all for chatting and for all the recommendations!! I've got some listening to do it seems
Krista (host) 5:00:30 PM
Speak of the devil!
Kevin Polk 5:00:38 PM
Eh, we learn as much from you as you could get from us
JeffB 5:01:08 PM
WHAT ARE THE CHANCES? This is pre-recorded, not a live DJ who was reading this chat
ricklistens 5:01:15 PM
bot?
JeffB 5:01:25 PM
Just random coincidence
Kevin Polk 5:01:32 PM
It has something to do with the emergency signal from yesterday.
JeffB 5:01:37 PM
cosmic
ricklistens 5:01:47 PM
the z
JeffB 5:02:27 PM
live dj just took over, it was the ZBC bot that randomly slipped that one in.
Kevin Polk 5:03:17 PM
That's a good bot, right there.
JeffB 5:03:40 PM
Hey Krista, AWESOME show as usual. Just followed you on Spotify. I'm verbcrunch on there. See y'all
Kevin Polk 5:04:05 PM
