This Nation's Saving Grace Beggars Banquet 1985
10:02 PM
The Germs - Caught In My Eye
The Germs Caught In My Eye
(MIA): The Complete Anthology Rhino/London-Sire 1993

Active from 1976 to 1980, this Los Angeles-based punk band established a mythos following the death of frontman Darby Crash at the age of 22 from a heroin overdose. In 2007, a biographical film (What We Do Is Secret) was released starring Shane West as Darby Crash. Germs guitarist Pat Smear served as the film's music producer and taught the actors portraying the band how to play their instruments.

10:06 PM
Black Flag - Wound Up
Black Flag Wound Up
Slip It In SST Records 1984

Fourth studio LP from the hardcore punk band, controversial for its album artwork and select song lyrics. In a May 2014 Razorcake interview, Black Flag bassist Kira Roessler criticized select lyrics from the album and artwork: "I didn't really recognize that they might have interesting ideas about women and that me being in the band was controversial. I didn't think that way until I saw the cover of Slip It In and I kind of realized, for one thing, they certainly didn't glorify women. That cover does not glorify women."

10:10 PM
Hot Snakes - If Credit's What Matters I'll Take Credit
Hot Snakes If Credit's What Matters I'll Take Credit
Automatic Midnight Sub Pop Records 2018

One of several bands fronted by late vocalist/guitarist Rick Froberg (1968-2023). Initially, Hot Snakes was a side project while Froberg was on hiatus from Rocket from the Crypt. Released in 2000, Automatic Midnight marked the band's debut album, with three more to follow.

10:13 PM
Fugazi - Public Witness Program
Fugazi Public Witness Program
In On the Kill Taker Dischord 1993

Producer Steve Albini was brought in by Fugazi to record an EP, which would then become the band's third LP. Neither was pleased with the final product and amicably decided to shelf those recordings, later shared via unofficial bootlegs. The band would re-record those and new cuts with producers Don Zientara and Ted Niceley.

10:15 PM
Les Savy Fav - Wake Up!
Les Savy Fav Wake Up!
The Cat and the Cobra French Kiss 2003

From Rhode Island, Les Savy Fav's early sound was influenced by earlier 90s post-hardcore bands, before moving toward a more melodic indie-rock inspired sound.

10:18 PM
Tucana - Sun's Coming Up
Tucana Sun's Coming Up N
Sun's Coming Up - Single Husbando 2023

Debut single from this Canadian punk band (Ontario, specifically). Influenced by the likes of Drug Church, Turnstile, and fellow Canadians PUP.

10:26 PM
Big Business - Start Your Digging
Big Business Start Your Digging
Here Come the Waterworks Gold Metal Records 2007

Seattle duo of Jared Warren on bass/vocals and Coady Willis on drums. Following their relocation to Los Angeles, both would become official members of the Melvins, making their debut on the 2006 Melvins album A Senile Animal.

10:30 PM
Closet Goth - Tucson, Bridge City
Closet Goth Tucson, Bridge City L N
All Wrestlers Die Closet Goth 2023

Latest release from this Tucson band, incorporating elements of punk, post-punk, noise-rock, and more into its sound.

10:33 PM
Cherubs - Sandy on the Beach
Cherubs Sandy on the Beach
2 Ynfynyty Brutal Panda Records 2015

Austin-noise rock band. Released this album after a two decade hiatus. One of my Top Ten releases from 2015. Read more about it (and the others) at https://kxci.org/2015/12/hex-enduction-hours-best-...

10:36 PM
Japandroids - Crazy / Forever
Japandroids Crazy / Forever
Post - Nothing Polyvinyl Records 2009

Debut LP from this Canadian noise-rock duo.

10:45 PM
My Bloody Valentine - When You Sleep
My Bloody Valentine When You Sleep
Loveless Domino Recording Co 1991

Much written about highlight of the shoegaze genre. Lyrics were indecipherable upon its release, despite the band claiming it spent more time writing lyrics than the music itself. Some bandmembers claim they don't know what was being sung despite this! Which is odd, since Kevin Shields would later state the band spent more time writing lyrics than music.

10:49 PM
Nirvana - Come As You Are
Nirvana Come As You Are
Nevermind Geffen 1991

Do I really need to tell you anything about this one?

10:53 PM
NoMeansNo - The River
NoMeansNo The River
Why Do They Call Me Mr. Happy? Alternative Tentacles 1993

Sixth studio LP from - in my opinion - Canada's best punk act (though now defunct).

11:02 PM
No Trend - Without Me
No Trend Without Me
Tritonian Nash-Vegas Polyester Complex Touch and Go Records 1987

Experimental punk act from Maryland. The band didn't care much for the punk label, and were often at odds with rigid punkers that expected the band to "be" a certain way. They loved to blast Hank Williams classics from their tour van when pulling up to venues, both because they loved Hank's music and also to annoy punk rockers.

11:05 PM
Flipper - Shed No Tears
Flipper Shed No Tears
Generic Public Flipper Limited LLC 1981

Influential sludge punk from San Francisco. Founding member Ricky Williams was in the band for a hot second before being booted but would go on to be part of other notable San Fran acts such as CRIME, Toiling Midgets, and The Sleepers.

11:10 PM
Mudhoney - Burn It Clean
Mudhoney Burn It Clean
Superfuzz Bigmuff (Deluxe Edition) Sub Pop Records 2008

1988 debut EP from this Seattle band credited by some music credits as founders of grunge. Mudhoney will be playing in Tucson at Club Congress on Saturday, November 11th.

11:13 PM
Tunic - Whispering
Tunic Whispering N
Wrong Dream Artoffact Records 2023

Third studio LP from this Canadian noise-rock band that harkens back to the best of the late '90s and early 2000s noise-rock.

11:16 PM
A Place to Bury Strangers - I'm Hurt
A Place to Bury Strangers I'm Hurt
See Through You Dedstrange 2022

Sixth studio LP from "the loudest band in New York." More accessible and poppier than previous releases.

11:24 PM
Protomartyr - Elimination Dances
Protomartyr Elimination Dances N
Formal Growth in the Desert Domino Recording Co 2023

Latest from this Detroit-based post-punk band.

11:28 PM
TV Priest - Bury Me in My Shoes
TV Priest Bury Me in My Shoes
My Other People Sub Pop Records 2022

Second studio LP from this English post-punk band. If you listen closely, you can hear influences from The Fall and Rowland S. Howard.

11:32 PM
Cloakroom - Lambspring
Cloakroom Lambspring
Dissolution Wave Relapse Records 2022

Third studio LP from this self-described "stoner emo" band. The band describes this album as "a concept - a space western in which an act of theoretical physics—the dissolution wave—wipes out all of humanity’s existing art and abstract thought. In order to keep the world spinning on its axis, songsmiths must fill the ether with their compositions."

11:37 PM
Lungfish - You Are the War
Lungfish You Are the War
Feral Hymns Dischord 2005

Baltimore-based post-hardcore band that was a staple of Dischord Records from the 90s through the aughts. Feral Hymns is the 11th studio LP from the band.

11:43 PM
KEN mode - The Shrike
KEN mode The Shrike N
VOID Artoffact Records 2023

Latest release from this Canadian noise-punk band, leaning heavily into a more angular metal sound for this one.

11:47 PM
Russian Circles - Vlastimil
Russian Circles Vlastimil
Gnosis Sargent House 2022

Post-metal instrumental band from Chicago.
