I started Relocalizing Vermont in 2007 to focus on issues of community resilience--the ability of our communities to both be resistant to and to bounce back from shocks from energy shortages, climate change, economic disruption, and more.

Over the years, I've used the resilience perspective to address a whole host of issues. Some are obvious, like local food production, the health of locally owned businesses, emergency preparedness, and individual resilience through physical and mental health tips.

Others issues may have a less obvious connection to community resilience. Civil rights and the preservation of democracy on a local, state, and national level are preconditions for us to be able shape the resilience of our communities. We think globally while acting locally when we take high-level views of the importance of "sovereignty" (whether of a country or a person's body), trends in artificial intelligence, or the national health care system.

When feasible, the guests are interviewed live and listener phone calls are welcomed.

The first hour of each show, 9-10 am on Thursdays, is generally devoted to interviews with guests. The final half hour, 10:00 - 10:30, includes an essay on the theme of resilience (in recent years, usually from Gene Logdsdon), a locally told story (usually from the Extempo series), local music, and a look at upcoming events in our community.
