A conversation in chat last week about great song interpreters led me to think of this one by La Havas. She offers a brilliant treatment of this Radiohead tune. Be still my heart.

Buenos dias, friends! Happy Saturday morning!
Bama Dan 8:03:32 AM
Good morning, Cheron, and happy Saturday to you!
richard johnson 8:05:29 AM
Howdy all!
Bama Dan 8:05:45 AM
Hey Richard!
Cheron (host) 8:06:49 AM
Hola, Dan & Richard! So glad to be here with you all :-)
Bama Dan 8:10:15 AM
Agree COMPLETELY with your playlist note on this one, Cheron.
richard johnson 8:11:04 AM
Oh my, Lianne's voice is captivating.
Bama Dan 8:12:14 AM
Had to "bump up" the volume lol 😁
Cheron (host) 8:12:46 AM
💖💖💖 Word!
Bama Dan 8:16:32 AM
Re interpretations: I was thinking last night how much I dig Cat Power's reworking of Bad Religion.
Cheron (host) 8:21:40 AM
Totally! I heard it in the car this week on KXCI, and whew.
Cheron (host) 8:21:59 AM
A driveway moment, for sure.
Bama Dan 8:24:07 AM
Yeah! I always try to listen to Seth's mixes. I really enjoy his selections.
Cheron (host) 8:25:16 AM
That's it--Seth's mix. Thank you, I was trying to remember and give props ;-).
richard johnson 8:27:48 AM
Oh how I wish I had retained more of my high school French... that Marianne Dissard track is a toe-tapper. Looks like she's quite the photographer too.
Cheron (host) 8:29:10 AM
Multi-talented, for sure! She also directed (I think?) a documentary about the Tucson music scene some years ago.
Cheron (host) 8:29:26 AM
I had to look it up again--it's called, "Drunken Bees".
richard johnson 8:42:12 AM
As I was saying about my high school French... ;-) I had no idea Bowie had recorded a French version of Heroes, and it sounds spectacular. Something tells me based on listening to the Saturday Morning Cafe that our host is at minimum tri-lingual.
Cheron (host) 8:43:56 AM
Sadly only passably bilingual, I'm afraid. Dan and I talked about this a while back. I don't want to misrepresent as a French-speaker, but I definitely have a huge affinity for the language. Actually, my SMC experience is probably going to compel me to learn!
Cheron (host) 8:45:35 AM
And my second language is Spanish, not French. ;-).
Bama Dan 8:46:13 AM
Among the artists I've learned about on SMC: mr. Gnome, Broadcast, Marianne Dissard, and dozens more. So grateful, Cheron!
Bama Dan 8:47:13 AM
Or as we say in Bama: "learnt" :-D
Cheron (host) 8:47:50 AM
Beaming ear-to-ear! 💃🏽 Haha, so glad you learnt it from here!
richard johnson 8:51:49 AM
I want to echo that, Dan. I specifically keep Spotify open during the Cafe so I can start following artists that I learn about here. Marianne Dissard picked up a "follow" today, and now Sven Wunder (holy smokes!).
Cheron (host) 8:53:43 AM
Aww, dang. SO glad. She's amazing.
Bama Dan 8:54:23 AM
Yeah, Richard, good plan! I'm a little more old school, and add the tunes/artists to a spreadsheet. :-/
Bama Dan 8:55:04 AM
And agree...Sven Wunder's Morning Glory was so cool!
Cheron (host) 8:55:26 AM
You know I love your spreadsheets, Dan! My father-in-law put together tons of CDs labeled "Life Music".
Bama Dan 8:55:51 AM
Bama Dan 8:57:41 AM
And great story about your dad-in-law!
Bama Dan 8:58:41 AM
I can't say it enough: I'm such a fan of your interludes!!!
richard johnson 9:04:02 AM
Sounds like you did well in the father-in-law department, Cheron. Or, at least you have a passion for music in common.
Cheron (host) 9:05:38 AM
Thanks so much, Dan! And yes, I am lucky across the board in the family department :-). Lots of open hearts and a deep, abiding love for music.
richard johnson 9:12:24 AM
"Roadrunner" - One of the best driving songs ever. I wonder how many speeding tickets have been issued as a result of this song.
Bama Dan 9:12:35 AM
LOL
Cheron (host) 9:13:28 AM
haha, no doubt!
Cheron (host) 9:15:35 AM
Not sure how much he tours lately, but Jonathan Richman is super fun live.
richard johnson 9:20:11 AM
Oh, agreed! In the late 80s and early 90s I probably saw Jonathan Richman four or five times, but not once since then. I wish I could go see Charley Crockett in Tucson!
Bama Dan 9:22:06 AM
That's going to be such a great show tomorrow night. I'm with ya...wish I could see it, too!
Cheron (host) 9:25:09 AM
I'm looking forward to it!
Cheron (host) 9:26:34 AM
Side note: Looking up French lyrics is not making me fluent, but it sure does help to broaden the basic vocabulary ;-). Highly recommend!
Bama Dan 9:27:01 AM
You read my mind!
richard johnson 9:33:15 AM
Oh that's a good tip! I've long been embarrassed that I cannot speak Spanish despite having lived in Houston twice for so many years... perhaps I should listen to those Spanish language Elvis Costello recordings as my gateway to picking up the language.
Cheron (host) 9:35:19 AM
Buena idea!
Bama Dan 9:42:40 AM
Awesome set!
Cheron (host) 9:43:12 AM
😊😊😊
richard johnson 9:43:47 AM
Friends, I’m about to have lunch with the family, so I want to wish you a wonderful weekend and thank you for sharing this fabulously-curated music and engaging conversation with me. Be well!
Bama Dan 9:45:11 AM
Always good chatting w you, Richard. Take care and "see" you soon!
Cheron (host) 9:46:57 AM
Enjoy your weekend, Richard! Thank you!

Cheron (host) 9:49:57 AM
Thanks for this, T. Ugh, this gets me right in the heart:
Cheron (host) 9:50:56 AM
Lhasa: "These dirty little cigarettes we smoke/and the liquor it just throws a cloak over the feelings we should show" — and if there are regrets ... well, that's as natural as the rest of it. When Lhasa briefly slips into a major key to tell Staples, "I may be waiting for you," the sense is that she's not going to be at the bar, but on the other side. And so she is. The vocal was among the last recordings that Lhasa was to make; after a long battle with breast cancer, she passed away on Jan.1s
Cheron (host) 9:51:17 AM
of 2010...what a loss
Bama Dan 9:52:50 AM
My favorite selection of yours today, Cheron. I had not heard it before.
Bama Dan 9:53:50 AM
Wow. And the NPR piece is so good.
Cheron (host) 9:54:44 AM
So glad you enjoyed. I'm sure it's a very under-played track since Lhasa doesn't get obvious mention. Yes, so good! Thanks again, Antonio! The resident music historian is worth every cent ;-).
Bama Dan 9:56:53 AM
Indeed! I still laugh from time to time about Tony's comments from last Christmas when you guest-hosted The Home Stretch. :-D
Bama Dan 9:57:33 AM
Thank you so much Cheron for today's show. Loved it! See you next Saturday!
Cheron (host) 9:58:00 AM
haha, thanks so much, Dan! Have a beautiful week.
