Welcome to Low End Theory. If I were to describe the aesthetics of Low End Theory as a musical territory or space, its borders would be provided by doom/stoner/psych metal on one side, contemporary prog and prog metal on another, experimental/electronic/folk on a third, and enclosed finally by the long arc of classic and contemporary post-punk that bends towards dub. The mission of this radio show is to conjure a farrago of heavy sonic fictions of sound, words, and music appropriate and fitting to the heaviness of the times. But fear not, this Low End Theory is not dour or depressing; on the contrary, we seek out the joyful and ecstatic in the acoustic depths of the low end’s vibrating, pulsing heart. And who among us does not need some joy anchored in the deep sonority of the low end, especially now?

DJ-O, thanks for the back story on the 801. I found the vinyl of this years ago and it has always been a favorite. True Wheel used to open a Saturday night show on ZBC full of doom-industrial music. I never missed it.

Sharon Van Etten's spotty for me. She's on the cusp of "breaking out", some of her recent releases struck me as watered down to target a bigger audience. I prefer her more shoegazey early material.

well thx for the mention AH! Over the weekend i found a cassette tape of me on ZBC circa 1982 or '83. I was able to find most of the songs, thinking of recreating the show and airing tomorrow. The tape included a long 1982 break about Pete Connolly coming on after me.. Pete Connolly is on after me tomorrow... nothing has changed

Or, as Nietzsche would have it, the eternal return of Jeff Berlin and Peter Connolly, lol

yeah it's frustrating how good ZBC's been. I just wanna listen, but have to turn it off to work. not getting much work done

DJO, restrictions have been lifted and things are opening up. I did 2 200 person weddings this weekend.

The third wave is receding but we are far away the vaccination goals and new case count that would allow for a full reopening

nfection rates here are dropping hugely. MA has one of the highest vaccination rates as well. The New England states are all at the top of that list.

Joe n Liv's 1st concerts were both Paul McCartney. 2 different tours, she was 9 and he was 12. Daniel's 1st show was All Them Witches/Mastodon/Primus, He got to talk to the ATW bass player for about 15 minutes at the end of Primus' set.

It was. I tokk Danil and Joe, and Joe's friend Peter, who lived with us for a while. Total boys night out. It was a blast.
